They're preparing the child for a life of spoiledness and obesity kkkk. Keep feeding the fat kid fries when he needs a karbaash :noneck:

Somalis don't show emotion. It's embarrassing to do that. I haven't said I love you to my parents in years. I don't think I have ever said I love you to my siblings. We don't hug either. That doesn't mean we don't live each other. It's just not in our culture to express it that way. We show our love by taking care of each other.

OP's family is definitely different. It's probably cadcad dhaqan.

I say I love you hundred times a day. Doesn’t mean I mean it. It’s just the way we call one another and when you want a favor we say abayo/aboowe addunka aa ku jeclehe and all sorts of praises. Only to my family and mehrem males, female relatives tho

There are many ways. Just saying I love you is useless. I show my love for my parents by obeying them and taking care of them when I can.

What you said about Somali culture is true in my experience.

Saying 'I love you' isn't useless though lol. It's good for people to hear it. You know the Prophet Sallalahu Alayhi Wasalam said to tell those you love that you love them.

There is also another hadith in which the Prophet Sallalahu Alayhi Wasalam rebuked a Bedouin who said he has never hugged or kissed his children.

Abu Hurayrah narrated that the Messenger of Allah, salallahu ‘alaihi wa salam, kissed Al-Hasan while Al-Aqra ibn Haabis at-Tameemee was sitting near him. A-Aqra said,

“Indeed I have ten children and I have never kissed any of them.” The Messenger of Allah looked at him and said, “Whoever does not show mercy will not be shown mercy.” [Sahih al-Bukhari]

"Somalis don't show emotion." Speak for yourself. Just because you and your family aren't affectionate with each other, it doesn't mean all Somalis are like that.

My dad is reer badiyo from Mudug which is probably the roughest and most violent people in Somalia. Maybe it varies across the country.

This i havent seen since late 1990s. I remember as a kid we used to kiss hands but it just stopped. I dont know why. Do you still do it?
You kiss hands for elders like a grandfather figure but not necessarily related to you or not

I hug and kiss my parents on the forehead. I basically envelope my mom when I am hugging her, considering she's barely 5'0'' and I am 6'6". I kiss them on the hand too, same goes for grandparents. Elders in my clan (that I know), male or female, I kiss them on the hand.

Note: Saudi royal family touch each other with their nose as a sign of affection.
