Polygamy only favours those with resources. And not so much in the western world. People don't need more hands for labour like they used to in the past. Even then, the type of relationships that would develop under monogamy are likely deeper and less transactional than polygamous situations. Think of it this way, when you keep switching from task to task, you'll diffuse your energies, resources and the quality of your output/effort will be diminished. Its not like this was a concern to people back in the day but in the high output, emotionally attentive world we live in it matters. Let's face it, on maslows hiearchy of needs, Somalis were likely not in a position to consider self-actualization. They were and still are staunch supporters of tribe (group oriented) so individualist notions are a little new to them.
