I have always said that Siyaad went off the deep end after losing the war in Galbeed, and you will hear me say this repeatedly if you ever interact with Somali left spaces. But in my opinion the SNM (and all other clan groups operating in Ethiopia during the 80s) were bonafide terrorist organizations.

There is no bias here, my bias is not from 'Daroodnimo' I do not even feel camaraderie with people for the sole reason of being Darood- you will see me charge the SSDF of terrorism as well. Siyaad being a mass murderer in his later years does not change the fact that the clan armies of the 80s and 90s which attacked Somalia (and Somali civilians mind you) from Ethiopian territory were terrorist organizations.

Both things can be true at the same time, I won't moralize and say the Isaaqs (or any other clan) were incorrect for creating a terrorist organization to overthrow Siyaad, but it must be noted that a state which was birthed from such a armed group will still carry that mentality- that murder of innocents will get you what you want.

I simultaneously won't defend Siyaad for his strategy of mass-murder of civilians across Somalia in response to terrorist incursions, nor will I defend his generals for carrying out these order and giving criminal orders of themselves.

Now we’re getting closer, finally someone who understands the actual history of Barre brutal regime, but we still have minor differences. Your entitaled to your own opinon and perspectives of Barre's history. I agree that some small opposition groups existed, but they were not terrorists and did not attack the government. They simply wanted change and were fighting for their people’s rights.

The movement began as a direct response to the harsh and neglectful policies of the Barre regime towards the northern regions of Somalia, which were mostly home to the Isaaq people. Keep in mind, SNM stands for Somali National Movement, and it included members from different clans, not just the Isaaq.
