Passports from many "breakaway" states, including Abkhazia, Nagorno-Karabakh, Northern Cyprus, Somaliland, South Ossetia, and Transnistria, are unable to be used to travel to many states. In many of these cases, residents of these territories will also have the nationality of the "protecting" country (e.g. Turkey in the case of Northern Cyprus, Armenia in the case of Nagorno-Karabakh, Russia in the case of Abkhazia, South Ossetia, and Transnistria) in which case they can travel on that country's passport and not their own breakaway passport as its unrecognised.
