Somaliland: Sterling and Genel acquiring 2D seismic on the Odewayne Block, onshore Somaliland

View attachment 24398 Somaliland’s Minister of Minerals and Energy on Sunday toured the ongoing seismic survey project in Salahley with Ministry officials, local leaders, and officials from BGP (China National Petroleum Corporation).

The current seismic survey project in Salahley is part of the Ministry’s greater seismic survey project of their oil blocks in Western Somaliland.

BGP was awarded a contract by the Ministry of Minerals and Energy in November 2016 to survey Somaliland’s oil blocks.

Minister Hussein Abdi Dualeh spoke briefly to the press about the project and its current progress.

“We are currently in the midst of finishing the 1000 km seismic survey project of oil blocks from Western Burao – Salahley. The survey is now in its third phase in Salahley and there is only 500 km of land left to survey,” Dualeh said.

Sterling Energy Plc.'s CEO, Eskil Jersing, said:

'We are very pleased that the 2D seismic campaign has commenced. It will provide the first detailed subsurface view in what is one of the last untested large frontier rift basins in Africa. We would like to congratulate the Ministry of Energy & Minerals for the successful start to the campaign.'

No we will end up like the Nigerians in the oil rich districts.The somali leaders will buy houses in Europe/America and let the populous starve.If this is serious however they will nationalise the oil immediately.

I understand your concern sxb. natural resources can create resource curse and dutch desease if not managed properly. but we arent like the nigerians or angola, we are homogenous for starters, its not like some ppl will be inadvertantly be discriminated economically, we will demand to share the wealth. oodweyne residence already protested after promises of water wells werent made.

We are very similar to gulf arabs in terms of social and political terms so we will be like them. no one will dare piss of the qabiil theyre exploiting from resources. the wealth will trickle down to every geeljire and qurbajoog.

personally i will create my own guerilla militia with @Duke of Bohol, if the fat cats dont feed us properly

I'm extremely skeptical of that, Somaliland is already corrupt and certain elites use what little wealth in the Somaliland region for themselves. Oil will just cause the elites too get richer and increase inequality.Also It will invite foreigners to rape the land , for example the Al madow mountains must be extremely mineral/oil rich.

What made u think so? It seems theyre very eager to explore further after favorable seismic data. the reason theyre slow is because they want stable gov and election delays slowed their progress.
