Somaliland Cuisine Being Offered At The "Food Taipei Trade Show" For The First Time!


The Somaliland pavilion attracted scores of visitors eager to sample the country’s cooked food, such as a meat jerky known as muqmad and a confectionery called halwa.

Somaliland Representative to Taiwan Mohamed Hagi said it is the first time his office is participating at the trade show and their objective is to share the country’s culinary culture with Taiwanese people before bringing a larger delegation of food manufacturers and distributors next year.

“Next year we are planning to have a very big presence and to invite our food companies and big restaurants to exhibit more about Somaliland’s culture to Taiwanese people,” he said.

Food Taipei 2021, held Dec. 22-25, is one of the biggest food-related trade shows in Taiwan and is showcasing products from 28 countries and 478 businesses, spread out over 1,120 booths at Nangang International Exhibition Center.

Somali food is great. When I lived in Stone Mountain, I always went here:

At least Taiwan has Boba and Mochi, SL got nothing but a rebranding of Canjeero

It's orginally called Laxoox by Somalis in Djibouti K5 and SL only Reer Somalia who probably learned the that type of bread from Xaaboosh called it Canjeero which sounds similar to the xaabishi type of bread Injeera
 
Somaliland cuisine

1. Suuqaar originated from Berbera this dish consists of hand cubed red meat , thin sliced potatoes and carrots seasoned with Somaliland spices and organic liin dhanaan. You serve with boodhari inspired Roodhi moofo . Boodhari is considered the father of love. So this dish is made with love

2. Haafayn , the staple dinner of burao. The dish is the most popular in central Somaliland. It's basically minced camel meat and spagheti they serve with shigni the best spicy sauce in Somaliland. This one gives you quick energy . Burao peaple are very energetic .

3. Camel liver and and laxoox : hands down the best breakfast , you can have with cup of black tea .

4. Canbaabur , popular in hargeisa this one is basically pancakes with Somali style yoghurt

5. Muqmad and laxoox . This one is very important for our culture , every pride is required to bring a huge container of muqmad with her the night after the wedding night . Legend says sheikh isaaq blessed the muqmad the ancestor of Somaliland peaple .
