Somalia to demolish ruins for hotels?

There are reports of historical sites being bought up to be used as spots for hotels.

Why do Somalis back home seem to have such little regard for historical sites? Xamar's beach is already full of hotels and apparently the private sector is involved with this land buying. Another example I could think of is Zeila's dilapidated state, why aren't their any community efforts to preserve Somalia's history?

Somalis will build 100 hotels and villa style houses before they think to build a road or a new sewage system.

Somalia could have one of the most iconic architectures of Africa if they modernised existing architecture and focused on rebuilding a few major cities first before expanding outwards. We could easily rival countries like Morroco.

are somalis being forced to build hotels, restaurants, and clothing stores? like we can't build anything else lol bro I remember going to somalia and in one city there was four hotels called sabaax but all owned by different people funniest country ever.

LOL Nah but fr i think theres something more going on WE DONT HAVE THAT MANY TOURISTS! Somalis dont really use hotels like that as well. If on holiday we rent out a villa or an apartment dhabaq or we stay at a family/friends home.

something fishy is going on
No its not fishy mogadishu is the only developed city out of the entire country the other major cities don't compare. These hotels are mostly hosting visitors from inside somalia everyone wants to visit there for business and other reasons. Don't forget Mogadishu port supports the surrounding cities and towns things brought from there end up all the way into Kenya to the point where Kenyans complain about not being able to compete on certain commodities the prices are too low for them to profit to take their costumers back sugar being one i can remember. There is a lot of money actually coming into that city. Somali kenyans go to mogadishu a lot as well.

Do these niggas not realize there can only be so many hotels in the city. I shit you not there's a hotel a block away from the light house. There can only be so many hotels and restaurants. Like damn make fish cannery or something. You know how many fish go to waste when they could have been preserved via canning? The catch of the day just rots if it's not sold because these fishermen are poor and can't afford refrigeration.

Hotels and restaurants everywhere, meanwhile essential infrastructure is nowhere to be found. So much incompetence, it will hurt us in the future when the city is poorly developed with no urban planning.

Somalis do built other things as well. The existence of hotels, restaurants and other services is simple supply and demand and it helps stimulate the economy which allows funding in more important areas.

They are not only building hotels , this is false. The accommodations are not only aimed at foreigners, they are aimed at transnational Somali travelers and regional investors to inject foreign currency into economy and make use of services.

Somaliland has even built road infrastructure to boost regional trade into Ogaden.

They built a massive highway that connects Borama to other areas. It's part of series of projects aimed at creating transporation infrastructure to facilitate trade

So much of what they are doing is to facilitate economic growth.

My concern mainly is how it might impact historical sites since there is little regulation in which spaces can be bought and used.

someone stop these oodeys from destroying everything. If they had any brain cells they would refurbish the old monuments instead of demolishing it.

Most people assume the building is public property. But I think the lighthouse and the surrounding land have likely been privately owned all along. The owners may have refused any attempts to rebuild or restore it, which would explain why the area has been left to decay and looks so run-down. I can’t think of another explanation.

Especially considering that Somalis have successfully rebuilt and restored numerous monuments and historic buildings across Mogadishu using local resources and manpower.

I discussed this in a different thread:

Some restoration projects that Somalis carried out
They even renovated and restored the ancient Abdulaziz mosque by a local construction called called Somstar group.

To be honest they've renovated tons of things around xamar, all the main monuments have been renovated

They also rebuilt others like Hawo tako monument, if they did all of this what prevents them from fixing the lighthouse ? 90% of the tourists that go xamar visit that lighthouse and take pictures on the nasty beach, not these monuments

If they wanna show a new image to the world this is essential

Ethiopia and Brazil understood this by making the roads that Tourists were most likely to use super clean and beautiful, abiy built a whole empty museum on the airport road and in the city center main road, rio de janeiro has roads going underground and walls hiding slums

Its all about image, if you want people to invest in your economy and future you have to prepare a clean and hospitable environment, literally all countries do this
We can partly credit this to the program initiated by Farmaajo

Videos of local construction crews:
Locals built many public properties for our nation, it kinda reminds me of the Isku Wax Kaabso (Self-help) initiatives during the 1970s

They even rebuilt/renovated the national theatre and the landmark hotel next to it

If they can do this, i am not sure why they didn't do it with the lighthouse and the surrounding areas.

We need answers tbh.

With that said though i don't think they are going to destroy it to replace it with hotels etc.

Since the government submitted it to UNESCO for conservation in the beginning of this year:

And in the description to it, it says that the lighthouse was next to similarly ruined hotels and as well as other residentials , banks , large villas and ancient buildings, so they might just be restoring the hotels that exist next to it along with it with other things.
Hotels, banks, and large villas lined up the waterfront next to the lighthouse making Mogadishu the true jewel of Africa.
The lighthouse is surrounded by some of the historic buildings in the city from the 13th century onwards. The medieval mosque of Hajji Ali in which the famous Moroccan scholar and traveler Ibn Battuta had prayed in 1331.
