Somalia is better now economically, then under Siad Barre's regime.

It was a shithole then and it’s a shithole now. Only difference is, back then, there was a modicum of respect in the international community. Now it’s a complete shit show. No respect anywhere.

Right now, individuals can make more money in Somalia, but it comes at a disastrous cost.

The only positive I see is federalism where a country as big as Somalia can move forward in a small incremental way.
Thank you. At least there is someone reasonable here.
I agree with you , but federalism is just BS to justify the lack of governement control outside Mogadishu.
Federal countries need to have strong Central governement that allows federal state to have autonomy on certain things. Somalia's govt can't allow shit because they don't have any authority outside Xamar. PL and JL do their own thing not because they were allowed to but because they have complete power over their region.
In normal federal countries federal members can't do certain things like foreign policy. PL has its own independent foreign policy. California in the Us can't do foreign policy without federal aproval, even in Ethiopia the somali region or oromia can't have relations with other countries without the central government. Somalia doesn't have a federal system, we have anarchy .

This is lies. The banana export was handled by the Italian colonizers and disappeared right after they left. We didn’t export anything under Siad besides livestock.

The commercial farms were state owned So were the fruit companies that export them, heck even Iran used to import Somali bananas. Livestock was mostly northern and galbeed regions

The country used to harvest and refine its own sugar, had countless banana, mango and etc farms, had cotton farms and used to make its own clothes at large scale and we used to also export these product.

Now the only 2 companies worth mentioning are Hormuud and dhahabshiil, a telecom and a remittance company.

Btw the 6 Somali airliners you mentioned all rent their planes from a Kenyan firm.

Althought the national infrastructure is hampered heavily, this allows us to set a basis for our future endeavours. A free Somalia is better than the repressive past.

Federalism is actually forcing a new heuristic for Somali nation-building, with a proper federal infrastructure and quasi decentralization we will be able to collectively decide how Somalia functions. Contrast this to most of Africa which is mired in a corrupt class system with the head of state essentially being a dictator.

Obviously policies to counter injustice, help the poor, military development will need to be implemented. Notice Somalia is a horrible place to live but its direction is positive, the new federal government must be based on three major beliefs:

1. Promotion of the free market as long as market failure isn't reached/
2. law and order backed by the state's monopoly.
3. Separation of the powers into the federal system, executive system, parliamentary system and judicial system.

In the coming decade, the growth of Somalia will be steady. the democratization/federalization of the government certifies that the state can never fall, we will essentially be immune to the overthrow of a government and will only go forward.

Yup, the exports are more than 3x higher currently. The Siad Barre regime banana exports were contracted by the Italians so only a few of the dollars circulated within the nation, most of the investment circulated through Italy.

The GDP per capita of Somalia is 225 currently, at the peak of the previous government it was 188$(accounted for inflation). The GDP per capita is growing however the inequality need's mitigation as well.

Wouldn't call that growth.

Kacaan era eas shit but today's a lot worse.

At least back then the majority of the population lived off livestock but now we can't go back to that life because of desertification and the population boom.
