This isn't going to be about 'clan' even tho that is very important social metric that cannot be just 'denied' away and this idea 'all clans are the same' is very un-true as all can be measured post state collapse(91-2000) and post state reconstruction recovery(2000 onwards). But my topic won't be about that, this concerns Somalia as a whole about it's foreign policy. Currently the only foreign policy we take is based on 'begging interest' which is 'short term goals', but I haven't seen any long-term 'foreign policy' posture and direction, as foreign policy has two dimensions, short n long term interests.
Currently Somalia foreign policy has been to flip flop, this is dangerous and shows no political stability or rule of law and the nation is at the mercy of the 'president of the day' ama 'madax ka nool' unlike other countries posture is 'nidaam ku nool' so it doesn't matter who is president they have a 'nidaam' which increases their state profile when risk matrix are applied. If Somalia continues on this route, it may lead to all nations taking a 'haloo heeshiyo' route as they benefit no-one like the world did with the 'arms embargo', foreign policy of nations can follow a similar outcome if the flip flopping persist.
Somalia needs to know it's short term goals and long term goals and assess each nation for those goals and begin a heirachy of nations. The goals may-be budget support for the govt, trade partners, security partners, knowledge transfers across the govt, Currently we adopt a foreign policy based on identity lol(caqli xumo) and 'brotherly relations' lol, there is no brother or sister relation when countries are pursuing their survival. A friend is merely determined on who has 'mutual interest' based on your goals and there goals.
This problem roots a-lot based on the founding principles of Somalia and their regions. It's full of 'identity' politics such ethno nationalism(somalinimo), theocracies(Muslim n Islam), Democracy goals(only voting not values). So this leads to a mix of 'islamic-somali-voting' identity and system. The problem this leads too is.
1. Ethno nationalism will lead to others seeing your only an 'ethnic' aspiration state and if u become to strong u may use that to harm their ethnicities. That's why a-lot of the world has turned away from fascism, but Somalis as usual last to the dance, wear it with a badge of honor while other nations silently enter rooms and say 'war waxani dandansiga ethnicity la ordayo, yusan nagu soo bixin'.
2. Theocracy, we mix our ethno-nationalism with Islam, so we are proposing a world to be divided by believer/disbeliever, this will side-line us from the rest of the non muslim world as not being in their 'long term interest which is to survive'.
Where-as the west which I must congratulate have a foreign policy that is robust.
1. Shared values countries are number 1 on their foreign policy goals.
2. Security Partners are second.
3. Trade partners.
4. Exporting their Political/Social philosophies target nations to help reform them.
This has allowed every nation to trust them globally becuz they don't hold an ethno-nationalist(white) or theocratic value(spreading christianity) or else they wouldn't side-line Russia who is white and refuses their value based system. Their values are 'xaq' and 'just' and based on human rights only, so when a nation sits with them, they don't percieve them as a threat and thus their global profile rises with more alliances as time continues.
A Human right value system is all a nation needs, not ethno-identity or theocracy, If Somalia just would accept human rights 'is superior, not only would our people be at peace becuz it could be used to ensure no-one violates it or imposes their will on other or tries to strip the freedom of another person. It promotes co-existence and eventual social maturity for ideas exchange and open-ness to begin and greatness to occur.
But a society that doesn't follow it, will be always chasing it's tail becuz some group or section will uprise due to their freedom being violated by identity or religion or gender or race or what-ever stupid identity vice that nation sits on.
Plus this allows us to spread our foreign policy to nations who will see we are no 'threat' not just thru 'empty words by the president' but they can see our social system isn't one that is built to come after them in the future due to islamism or ethno-nationalism. It could lead to Somali empire emerging as nations rush to join our 'axis' in Africa becuz their not in fear of us but admire our social maturity.
