Some Somali girls in Toronto made this podcast I stumbled on it cause of an interesting ep on finance. I of course find a ep on Somali men being trash. Being 2 and a half years old aside I would really like to clear the air about something I have noticed that I don’t understand. A real blind spot.
How can these clout Xalimos be “woke” online but use the same right wing talking points that white politicians and racists use when referring to madow men, when they are talking about Somali men?
Like when she says that she doesn’t understand why Somali men her age compared to other Ajnabi men are dead/deal drugs/dropout/ are in jail. Even comparing them to Somali girls saying they are in school more and getting degrees more but asking why Somali men aren’t?
Asking why so many are failures in the west and specifically Canada since that’s where they seem to be from. What I don’t get is, isn’t this the argument racist white ppl use? That black men make up 8% of the population but 70% of violent crime and fill US prisons. We know why that’s the case everyone knows why that’s the case.
Unless you believe in early 20th century eugenics that some groups of ppl are genetically predisposed to crime and mental illness, or the other rightwing talking point that “fathers are missing.” You know exactly why this is happening. They growup in poverty and in a society that moulds them for failure at everystep of their life. From being poor and living in a bad neighbourhood filled with crime, racist schools and education systems that suspend black boys at 8x the rate as other boys for literally the same actions in schools. The labor force and how generally warped it is towards the dominant society and unlike the girls in these households they aren’t shielded from the realities of the world by living in lockdown until 18/19 and fall into the wrong crowd because they live in cheap neighborhoods filled with generations of poverty. There just aren’t as many female gangs with drug distribution networks and Xalimos are just better at fitting into non-black spaces tbh a lot are white washed and very good at code switching/dealing with micro aggressions and maneuvering racist institutions like public education.
The ajnabi men arguement doesn’t even make a lot of sense either. They didn’t leave a war torn country most immigrated here not seeking refugee status, with good education and their parents had well paying jobs/lived in the suburbs.
So why do these woke clout Xalimos understand that environment for Madow men and pretend like they are blind to these same isssues affecting so many Young Somali men and just use that to trash them as garbage? It doesn’t make any sense.
