I’m beyond impressed with you folks, what did your parents do differently to make sure you didn’t forget the Somali language? I have never met a Somali lander that didn’t speak perfect Somali, and I’m talking about ones that were born in the west. These people make me feel shitty about my Somali skills, just bumped into a 16 year old at my local halaal and he suggested to be my tutor, 16 year old guys my Somali isn’t bad but it takes me little longer to think of certain words and also why is it that you forget how to speak Somali automatically when an older person speaks to you? It’s probably the pressure of making sure I don’t sound stupid or just my anxiety I don’t know guys

European Somalis generally speak good Somali. It’s our friends in North America that are lacking

I and a lot of Americans didn’t know somali till our fob family members came in the late 90s, early 2000s. That was the last batch of refugees before bush shut it down.

If you look at landers born in the west compared to other Somalis born in America, they beat us at somali.
