What is a Somali social event? You mean weddings? That's not really a social event, it's someone getting married. Somalis don't do social events.

You go to a occasional wedding.

You go to a religious traveling lecture.

Everything else you attend is a non-Somali majority event based on the circles u run in.

What's this about the guys on one end in droves and girl on the other kkkkk

Where?

That sounds hilarious.

Pass
there are somalia day events (slash canada day in canada), eid events, somali conferences that can be about any number of issues, political events (go watch one of them on youtube, the men sit on one side and the women on the other)

and weddings are social events what do u mean, it's someone getting married kulaha:cryinglaughsmiley:

My God woman where do you live?

A Somali event is kind of a codeword for a Somali party held on school grounds. Generally we share events with other East Africans.

Also Somali peoples from various neighborhoods have specific days they celebrate on. Dixon day for example.

But the youth tend to organize themselves in uni and grad school.

Wallahi you live where Beavis and Butthead takes place

:cryinglaughsmiley: right

i'm amazed at how she can make definitive statements on Somalis from wherever Little House on the Prairie was filmed. that's confidence right there :cryinglaughsmiley:

Somali weddings: one night is serious religious rite with the sheikh, and the other night is a Hilton hall or wedding hall with food, music, families. The families leave earlier and the young ppl straggle and mingle.

It's not really, really a social event in the sense being discussed. But ok, I'll let u have that.

African night, the Muslim Student Association, the Black/African Student Association are not Somali events.

Muslim conferences are filled with Arabs and other ethnic groups and are segregated, but that can't conceivably be called a Somali event either, and its religious to boot.

Eid is a religious holiday, a prayer, and again consists of a mixed Muslim community that rents out a convention center or prays at mosques, and that isn't a Somali event either. Are you expecting ppl to intermingle for a prayer they're attending?

We also have our own Somali sanctioned events. Sometimes there's a guest speaker talking about Somali issues and Somalis just jot it in their calender and show up en masse.

Also even the east African and Muslim events are different because we're a majority in my city so it still comes down to your population size.

But there are tons of places only Somalis congregate in.

We don't have any cultural calendar events we celebrate like most other cultures as far as I'm aware. Most events Somalis go to are essentially religious rites or events, so religion defines the nature of the gathering by default, hence they're segregated. I wouldn't count that as a Somali event but a religious one. Any other self-conceived event you have will mimic what you're used to. That's why the cultural bits, the actual tolerable ones like clothing and cultural expression, music, poetry, are fading with the young generation.

It's not a Somali thing? This is your typical awkward guy on public trans, of which creepy starers are the tame variety. I'd take that over the ones that talk.

I'm not saying it's exclusive just weird when it's someone that's pretty approachable in your own community.

But dead ass ten minute stares are something else. Plus he was a uni student not some hobo.

yo forget about somali mosques, there are qabiil mosques in toronto :deadmanny:

I go to a Hawiye mosque now :mjlaugh:

Your superior
There is a difference, degdheere is more like the quick behind the bathroom stall type, you want to get out there quick afterwards, were as @VixR is the more intellectual challenging types I used to prefer, minus the hangups of course since she is Gaal, and also far less resistance, win/win
you usually don't ask for permission (those poor cad cad women)

its weird yo

I think the diaspora has been gripped by conservatism, almost as if to atone for fucking up Somalia. no seriously, I've heard it from many ppl that they think God is punishing us for being so liberal in the kacaan era :russ:

It's the truth. Another example: look into the recent history of Iraq. Look at them now.

The rebellious are always punished.

I'm speculating here but I think the Native Americans were punished by Eeebe with the European invasion who've contributed to wiping out at least 90% of their populations. If that is not a calamity of epic proportions then what is?

I find this very annoying. Not only does it happen in gatherings it also happens in normal day to day. They stare so much like wtf u staring at :umwhat:if you wanna talk..talk! Hadii kale fak off

This! There's potential when the person is new and not a fob, esp if they look good

The good looking Somali guys specially the non-fob ones don't know how to approach. They just stare and stare, find your social media account and say hey I am so and so that was staring at you yesterday. lol but he has no problem talking to a Jessica so much yaabis

I don't see this. The guys I know are not shy, but there's no way. I've seen a couple ppl really go out of their way to hide their interest in each other from everyone else when they clicked, but they never seem to work. I don't think I know personally anyone that met and married here, they're always from somewhere else or something else.
They need to grow pair of balls or hit the road jack
Talking to a Somali for a lot of ppl is like being ready for the possibility of getting settled, which is something you naturally shy away from if you're young and not ready. I think that's what it really comes down to, otherwise if you're really awkward, you'd be awkward around everyone.
