Somali female soldier goes viral

I am "pro women in the workforce", but I am not "pro women getting their heads blown off in a dangerous war while they still get treated as second class citizens in the country they're fighting for".

Men will still expect you to birth their children and cook their dinners whether you are a stay at home mom or a working woman. The very least they can do as men is give us a safe environment and financial stability. As I said before, we need to hold african men accountable, or we will always live in poverty and instability with them.

My future daughters will be cherished, not sent off to dangerous wars. Why wouldn't I want the same for other Somali women and girls?
Africa is a continent with diverse ethnic groups, religions and cultures.. You make it sound like Africa is a small country when you keep repeating african men in your reference.

you cant be pro women if you see an issue with a woman doing what she wants and being a soldier. women suffered in history due to no choice or autonomy, so its nice to see a change. not everything is man vs woman.

i also find it funny some women like to fall under the patriarchy when convenient, which is when men fight, provide and make a living for them, but then want to be staunch feminists when it comes to other ideas that doesnt benefit them much. quite selfish and disingenuous if you ask me.

I'm talking about how women have to take on both roles, it's not even equality it's men being lazy and doing absolutely nothing and lacking responsibility.

There's nothing wrong with a woman at war, question is though what does her husband do? Is he taking care of the kids if they have any, watching over the house? People conveniently forget that while women are moving forward and taking on "traditional" men roles, men are not taking on "traditional" women roles.

These western raised xalimos and faraxs have no culture or class, they are merely imitating blacks with no history, culture or religion. They are lost youth.
They are lost they cant fathom the fact that women arent oppressed and are free in Somalia to join military. In the 70s Somali women had their own brigrade in the Kommandos and did many duties. Its not a new concept in Somalia they are acting like were KSA where women are restricted.

feminism is all about equal opportunities and without it xalimos wouldn't be in the army and those golden years u speak of where Barre was in power u should know one thing about socialism its a quite progressive ideology as a result the ussr was letting women fight in the army and work in factories long before the west even allowed it so yes without feminism and Barres socialistic regime i don't think somali society would be as progressive as it was and is

Even In Islam, women are encouraged to obtain education and better themselves. Women were also fighting for the deen in the prophet saw era.

I was just using examples from the past, calm down. Who’s talking about Barres regime lol

True bro. I know Somalia is poor and cannot compete with western standards but truly our women are not oppressed, they are very free, strong and they work really hard and many of them are excellent businesses women.

Her husband could be dead for all we know or he could be another soldier. Life in Somalia is very different than your western life

Exactly if you go back home you would see that women not men make up the backbone of society. They are everywhere in business and in politics, from the local khat seller to maqayaada, Somali women are friggin hustlers man more do than men i would say.:icon lol:

There's more men in the army than women, no one is holding her hostage.

You need to stop being aggressive with your "men bad" agenda.

Good point but what I mean is that I don't like this new idea of women doing everything. They will work full time and then have to manage the house and kids all by themselves, where is the fairness in that?

Lol

You went all political on me, but I’m glad you agree with the empowerment of women bro. More of our Somali brothers should come to their senses.

Girls who are asking why is she in the army.. Think about this.. Maybe she really hates al shabab because they killed her husband, oppressed her or maybe she is doing it to give her kids a better and more secure future.. what ever the reason I'm 100% sure she wasn't forced to join the army.

Sigh.

I’m not saying she’s being forced to do this. Why is everyone acting so obtuse? This forum cries all day about how women are masculine and how we should learn what our roles are in society, but then turn around and applauds them for joining the army and being “the backbone” of Somali society? Tf?

And FYI I am not condemning all men, I am condemning the African man, who expects his women to be content with living in squalor and servitude!

Thing is you don't know what her husband does or doesn't do you're just assuming because it fits your agenda. Maybe he has his own job and takes care of the kids too. Maybe he's dead or injured badly. Maybe he is a full time stay at home dad.

Not all men are deadbeats or lazy the same way not all women are ho's or gold diggers. The loud minority is what you are listening to and I don't blame you because a lot of the men here do the same thing

I can't speak for every Somali household but in Somalia it's very different often times one is surrounded by family members who help with the kids and everything that's why some women are out there working or doing business. Most middle class families in Somalia have also a worker who helps out with the daily chores in the house.
