Why didn't she name her after her own self instead of her sister's??
Men always name their sons after themselves and just add "Jr." but I notice women never do, it's about time we start:icon lol:
It was like a tribute to her sister because her sister named her daughter after my mom

Good to know but the ones i was talking about weren't pretending since they were in the west and were living in a small town where there were hardly any somalis. They could've chosen to dress differently but they didn't, it became part of their culture. Few years down the line the entire family became muslim.

If you got questions about islam do ask but something tells me you know quite a lot ? am i right ?

Good luck learning af somali the more you practise the better you become at it.
Oh ok, I misunderstood sorry. And I know a little bit, I had some Muslims friends growing up so I'm familiar with some of the things (the cultural aspects more so than the theological). I'll be sure to ask if I have any questions though, thanks!

You don't have a Christian name? I figured you were a Julie Jamac or a Barbara Aden, maybe even Bertrude Hersi :siilaanyolaugh:
:bell:Really? Out of all the names you chose those basic white bread ones??
My last name is Muslim but Hersi sounds cooler, it reminds me of one of my role models. :lolbron:

Theodora just sounds like the female version of Theodore:bell:
Google tells me it originated from some Greek bishops/saints, so :nvjpqts:. I knew it was the female version but I wasn't familiar with the religious connotation of that name in general though (ironically[?] it means "God given"/God's gift:mjlol:), learned something new.

so. do you go to christian gospels. man their music is lit. especially black gospel churches. i can hold a mean falsetto. :diddyass:
Lol, there is definitely singing in church but I don't know if it's what your thinking. We sing gospels and hymns I guess. I've never been to one of those "black gospel churches" if you are referring to the AA ones...?

interesting. whats your image of a heaven? is it up in the skies, on the heavens? muslims refer to it as a garden.

So you do have an cadaan name??? :dwill:
Nope, I didn't say that. Not everyone gets a cadaan name when they are baptized:zhqjlmx:

As a kid, we were just told that it was in the sky/clouds and there would be a gate where all the good people who had faith went, where you'd reunite with your family members who passed, and there would be angels, etc. I'm not sure if I was told about any garden, beyond Eden. As we got older, the image was that heaven is more of a "state of being" I guess? That there is no standard description...but rather heaven is where anything you could ever want would be fulfilled (and that "what we want" in heaven may not even reflect the more materialistic perspective of our human experience/knowledge, if that makes any sense). (Just saw a post of yours that I accidentally skipped; if it's not obvious by now, I grew up as Christian not Muslim).
