Somali children need better role models

Some of yall really need to check up on your younger siblings to make sure that everything is all right, the amount of 13-18 year (mostly young male) somalis that are online ruining their precious time and energy arguing and having petty war with ajnabis or becoming radical qabiilist is sad. Makes me genuinely wonder if any of these kids have any after school activities like sports, hobbies or studies to help with their development. Let's face it this past generation of somali parents on the average are pretty shit at parenting because they have so many mental issues to handle due to the civil war, culture clash going to complete foreign country which they don't share language or religion with and on top of that raising five or six children. I feel like it's our responsibility as young adults is to give a better role model or influence on the younger generation by making an example out of ourselves, especially with the amount of unnecessary xenophobia there is recently online.

I remember I made an old hread about somalis in Ivy league's to which some of you replied that there are a lot of somalis going in to these prestigious schools but that they keep it "lowkey" well with all due respect they're kind of usless the entire point of being a successful part of your community is to influence others within in your community, just keeping quite and humble really isn't going to create a domino effect. Just have a look at the East-asians and how they make sure to always publicise their achievements, there is this Korean girl doing tiktok about her day-to-day at yale and another on at harvad not only are they improving the overal image of their community but also inspiring the Asian youth both in the west and Asia that they can do better !

I've always said this and still stand by it, somalis need to take notes from the East-asian and Jewish community if they want to progress in a successful path as a minority instead of pathetically mimicking madow and arab culture.

Everyone is responsible for himself. If you want to take the culture of blacks, Arabs or whites, what do we have to do with this? Somalis love to interfere in the lives of others

This is about postive influence I don't know where you got the idea of "interferes" from I am personally against gossip and nosy behaviour which is sadly very common with somalis.

Those youth are a minority tbh
we need to worry more about the 13-18 year old men getting involved in the streets
that’s one of the biggest problems facing us as a community

Is these somali fob parents that keep producing so many children without even fully looking after them and that are on welfare. New generation somali parents are more focused on their children as they don't give birth to more than 3.

True, it's good to see this new generation of somali diaspora parents having a stable income and being rational enough to have 2 - 3 children. I wish I could say the same about the new generation of parents in Somalia, lack of eduction and job opportunities makes people's less responsible especially regarding family planning.

The role model all Somalis should look up to and replicate.

Well they say they do but then end up becoming criminal thugs, even in the France riots mf's were screaming "allahu akbar" while looting a family owned store. Anyone can claim that they're following the prophet without actually doing so, what they really need is a strong and strict father figure to keep them in check.

My apologies I overestimated the maturity and intelligence of the people on this forum, I will keep it short and dumb !

You raise valid points, but could I be so bold as to suggest, we mimic not any other, for the admirable value aspects in the said cultures are embedded in ours. Let us not abandon, but revive ours, esp. its core values, instead of mimicking weaker cultures, shall we?

What you see in social media is not a reflection of the larger Somali youth in the diaspora. I have nieces and nephews and neither of them show incel behavior. Joining gangs is a big problem for Somali youth who grew up in the ghettos though; however, I have not seen the incel behavior from Somali youth that I come across on social media.

That being said, other than the religious scholars and connection to the mosque, I haven't seen any involvement in our youth from the larger community. For instance, if you look at the other East African communities, I have seen the churches and their community organizations providing so many activities, especially sports, community events, family counseling, etc. We (Somalis) lack many of these organs whose job should've focused on our youth. So unless the family is religious or lives outside of the ghettos, most of our youth, especially the boys, are at risk in joining gangs.

As for Ivy League, it is mostly Somali girls joining those schools. I believe there was one Somali boy who won a scholarship at MIT. But to my knowledge, Somali girls have been able to compete with Asians and other communities in joining ivy league schools.

I recently posted a thread criticizing over the poor work ethic and lazy attitudes among Somalis and African descents in general but was rebuked by nearly everyone who can't handle the truth.

One thing I disagree with you here is that using East Asians as an example is a bad one because their countries are already well established for 4+ decades and have the financial power (tech and automotive). Ivy League is just a status, it doesn't mean shit.

What you should compare are the impoverished South America, Middle East, South East Asia, Balkans and the sub continent to the lesser extent. They all had bad reputation when they moved to the West and have seen traumatizing shit like many Somali first generation immigrants but it didn't stop them from being an established group 2-3 generations later.

South East Asia went through terrible hardship during the cold war and many fled to Australia and US where racism was at all high. The Vietnamese started manual laboring from scratch doing back breaking work and look at them 30 years later. The same for Latinos, Arabs and Balkans who fled to the West as refugees and started from scratch working in blue collar jobs.

We all know every one of them own many construction, auto-mechanic, manufacturing, hospitality, real estate, agriculture, textile business and the list goes on in span of just 20-30 years of living in the West.

Meanwhile, it's been nearly 30 years and many Somalis still have a reputation of being stuck working as taxi drivers, security and some solo gig work. They're obsessed with entrepreneur crap (All African descents are notoriously obsessed with it for some reason). They just won't touch anything Blue Collar and look down on them without realising they're the backbone of every countries.

They all like to flaunt their over-saturated generic restaurants and small shops in malls when it hardly means anything, i won't go further because truth hurts.

Let that sink in.
