Bit hyperbolic but yeah Islamic is notorious for holding back Muslims from advancing. Let me give you an example. Here where I live everyone who works takes a mortgage and after 20 years they are home owners. They climb up the social ladder, they have equity, take loans, etc. Muslims say mortgages are haram and avoid them. They are markedly poorer than other non Muslim immigrants as a result, they are forced to rent. Their kids go to bad schools; introduced to drug and gang culture.

Was Islam holding back Muslims during the Abbasid caliphate when Jews and Christians us3d to travel to Baghdad to get them knowledge while Europe was in the dark ages?
