It could linger on in him way beyond the two week quarantine period (there have been (rare) cases of people spreading it two months after they recovered) and then he could perhaps infect an older relative of his and possibly kill that person. It's still troublesome even for young people.

One more thing, viral load makes a big difference in how severe your case of covid will be. Since he shares an apartment with an infected person, if he goes back in, the viral load will be extremely high compared to let's say a person who caught it from just one contaminated doorknob only.
