Let’s not bullshit because we all know Somalis always have done secret marriages. That’s how I even found out it existed through an elderly auntie who did it herself. We know in Islam it’s haram but it’s still widely practiced and recognized in the community. Had he been another qabil they would’ve definitely made the marriage halal.

You are making an assumption here. The most logical thing is to think the secret marriage is why he was refused. Yes Somalis do and for too long it has been well it already happened, so we might as well accepted it. If he approached it right, then i would be on his side. You do know that in Somalia, women who are raped end up being married to their rapist and no one bats an eye. So I really think the whole “secret marriage” thing is an excuse for the father to deny his daughter to marry the man. Had he been from a major clan they’d overlook that and marry each other off.

I agree. But there is a level of hypocrisy surrounding it, when it comes to Somalis.

Qurba siro (secret marriages) is common amongst Somalis and the father whilst irritated is usually forgiving when the man is from a nasab tribe. Usually, the man's qabil come and give the abo money and ask for his forgiveness and he is then obligated to accept.

Whilst secret marriages are wrong and disrespectful in general, it seems people only care about how 'wrong' it is when the man is from a minority clan.
