First time I've agreed with her. A lot of angry people in the comment section though

Not a rare win. She needs to tow the party line more, otherwise she will find herself in the headlines even if she is doing the right thing.

Refusing to sanction a country that invaded another country when both parties in your country agree on that is bad look. Sometimes in politics as you say you have to tow the party line and play ball.

With rona, first you had everybody on the side of the government narrative early in the pandemic, months later people got fed up with the government narrative. Same thing will happen with Russia. Especially as commodity prices sky rocket.

Sanctions also don't work.

Cuba has been sanctioned since forever and it changed jackshit.

Cuba don’t have oligarchs though. The hope with going after oligarchs is once you squeeze their money they may get together and decide Putin is bad for business and get rid of him. It’s a long shot, but the west has no other option.

This is why she's against this ban... because U.S is thinking of working with Saudi Arabia more.

Omar also criticized the administration amid reports that the US is looking to repair relations with Saudi Arabia and encourage it to pump more oil as it bans Russian oil.

"I hardly see a principled stance here, right?," she said. "If our issue is that we are unwilling to buy oil from a dictator, who is waging a war on a weaker neighboring country, I can hardly see where the principle is in going to Saudi Arabia and cozying up to another tyrant."

Saudi Arabia has been engaged in a bombing campaign against the neighboring country of Yemen since 2015. The United Nations has called the situation in Yemen "the world's worst humanitarian crisis."

He has the support of his party, his political opposition are communists who also support the war, the Russian people see this as a fight for their motherland and also support this. Nobody can overthrow him.

This is a L from Ilhan. She will come across as Putin shill. Normal democrats can turn against her including progressives.

Wrong. Russia is run by oligarchs and once their money is messed with and the economy crashes. They will turn on him. Ukraine is not worth that much to Russians

They are not a unified front, if they make a move against Putin and fail, they will lose everything. If they succeed, the replacement regime could lose control, and they will lose everything. Safer to stick with Putin and preserve their place in the hierarchy.

The only way Putin could lose power, is if it’s directed by the intelligence departments or the military. And that would never happen since he listens to what they say and holds them in high regard.

Yeah it’s huge risk. But when people are losing money at rapid rate, they tend to react illogically. They not just gonna sit there and keep losing money

You think Putin wasnt preparing for this reaction? He has already eliminated all the oligarchs that opposed him. He has billions in gold reserves and sits on a third of the worlds commodities. China and Indian market alone is enough to keep Russia affloat.

That is a myth.

Russia is not run by oligarchs at all; the oligarchs held sway in Yeltsin's 'Government' but they have since been forced to heel by Putin and his KGB colleagues. Russia is dominated by the intelligence and security apparatus; let those oligarchs try something and they will meet very unfortunate ends.

You are underestimating what people will do when money has run out. Yes the oligarchs bend the knee for him because going against him was stupid and you can make your money by getting along with him. But intelligence can be bought and the west will work with these oligarchs to get rid of Putin and how it would be beneficial for both. History shows when a leader has too many enemies he tend to fall. Putin took in more than he is capable off

You do realise that some of the most lucrative industries were taken away from the oligarchs of the 90s and transferred into the hands of Russia's intelligence-security community?

Putin is unlikely to fall due to this war and the attendant sanctions imposed on Russia; Russia is a source of more than just oil-gas -- and even that will be relied on by Europe for years to come; Russia is a source of other exceedingly important resources and will be making over $200 billion a year from its economic agreements with China.
