Rant: I have a deep dislike for unskilled Somalis, who complain about lack of development in Somalia.

Sending Money back home slowly poisoning the country
Somalia is the only poor country where poor people look down on labor jobs
Somalis back home use remittance money for maids and servants lol. As bad as it sounds I support a temporary communist system that would take the remittance and taxes and actually do something.

When you watch videos of the kacaan era and how they got young educated men and women to go out to each village and teach the locals to write and read. That is what we must emulate.

Teach 200 people basic tasks they each teach 20 or so people and soon you will have thousands of people with skills that are valuble.

This would be one of the best things for the goverment to invest in as it would be almost a garuntee money back via taxes.

Somalia has low regulation and low cost of labour we could be a manufactoring hub like ethiopia if we plan correctly.
Teaching a geel jire to take an engine apart and put it back together, or weld, or operate an excavator is my dream lol

i actually listed a few degrees i find unskilled and useless, but tbh phd in finance and economics is absolutely useless as well, in 2023 i can create a machine learning model to capture and understand financial and economic data better than some PHD who just wants a big paycheck. if anything, I would take a truck driver or a general laborer instead of someone with a PHD in finance or economics, because computers exists...but if you really think PHDs in those fields are useful, give me a list of tasks they can accomplish, and i will let you know if computers can do the same thing...

but respect to your double phd with two engineering degrees cousin, that's the level of competency we need. my argument is allot of these degrees are useless, and don't contribute to society, but People really think clout from their useless degrees and complaining about poverty to international organizations, will create value in a place like Somalia, where one time of year they cry about droughts and the other part of year they complain about floods.

full disclosure: i have a masters and working on another masters, i want more Somalis to make better choices in the type of education they pursue.
Those uncles are retired and received their education in the 20th C. They seem to have done perfectly fine for themselves, with some making net positive contributions to Somalia.

Interestingly, you want to claim some degrees are useless, which adds nothing to the conversation. Half of the men and a quarter of the women in Somalia are literate. And even for those with access to formal education. They are more likely than not going to be unemployed (especially those without connections). You are making fun of people in the West for their advanced education, some of whom may not even have the desire/will to return home. If you, however, frame this conversation as one where students should consider the ROI of their education and the debt load that comes with it.

Along with its utility. Then, perhaps I would be inclined to take this discussion seriously. Also, your problem comes from people with vaunted degrees you consider useful not wanting to return. So good luck.

Good post. I feel that a lot of people feel this way and rightly so. The other day I went to this community event where they were raising money to help people back home. I was told it was to build a well.

When I got there, this Arabic spitting guy with ingrown beards and a black khamis was the speaker. Turns out, the money they were collecting was for an Islamic school. I said no problem but how’s that going to help anyone?

They can easily learn. There are already some who do it. It’s just that there’s no leadership encouraging skilled trades. Like how hard is it to set up a skilled trades commission where skill development is standardized? For example actual welders teach people how to weld.

I will take that into consideration, the whole “teach a man to fish” philosophy. I think we get too tied up in the west with titles and names across our chest, but no real economic output.

In some cases I seen kids who got their undergrad who couldn’t get jobs, but if they learned solar panel installation, they can actually market those skills in Somalia.

Plumbers, mechanics, insulators and scaffolders can market skills in Somalia or anywhere. No need for specific skills. These jobs are currently done by Oromo and some Somali Bantu people.

I recently learned most of the insults my mom called me as a kid, was just different fields of labor. I think the Italians and colonialism did a number on us, they taught us to be Inefficient and in need.

the messed up part is, these aid agency grifters use global warming to shift blame away from Somalia's lack of skilled labor. And make it seem like Somalis by their nature are subhuman and cant figure out things like irrigation.

it high class to have “degrees” but it’s low class to be self sufficient…being a beggar is not a status symbol.

I even see this mentality in the diaspora. I was raised to never ask for money and would feel embarrassed if it got to that point

I call them victims, my life was hard growing up, but now that I’m older I realize people are victims of their own decisions.

it’s really easy to make money in America, even if you are stupid.

Absolutely shocking, imagine having foreigners doing these jobs while Soomalida would raither sit comfortable an sip tea while getting money from Dahabshiil sent by relatives.

I had a similar situation. A brother attending pointed out that we were not running out of places to pray in Somalia. You can literally pray on the ground you stand on (as long as it is clean), you don't need a fancy mosque when there are so many critical needs.

These regressive people need to be ignored and not really confronted. Confronting them means you’re in favour of apostasy and are going to hell 🤣.

In all honesty teaching someone a useful life skill is way more important than building another madrasa.

Rather than making them a well they should TEACH them how to make a well if its done like that poor people not only in somalia but around the world in 3rd and 2nd world countries can be self dependent and have the skills to pull themselves out of a problem.

Some Somalis use social media to bash poverty in Somalia and its perceived lack of potential. On the other hand, the Leaders who are supposed to guide Somalia out of the dark ages,
Stop seeking leaders in the diaspora. They're in Somalia. Expecting a refugee or their children that grew up in poverty council homes to move to Somalia to contribute is ridiculous. They don't have that power.
hold degrees like "MS in international relations, MA in psychology/sociology, PhD in Gender studies, PhD in governance, MBA," in my opinion, these are the two sides of the same coin, both are hypocrites. Somalis with real skills are not going to "pay/bride" some warlord for protection, when those skills are more valuable in other countries. The Somalis who lack skills are the least able to help in Somalia's future, but also those same Somalis make choices that affect Somalia's future for decades.
Self-preservation is essentially the process of an organism preventing itself from being harmed or killed and is considered a basic instinct in most organisms. Most call it a "survival instinct". - Google search.

Nobody is going to risk their lives for some dream of helping Somalia, a country they have little attachment to because they didn't live there, when they have to fear for warlords.
if we need railroads, who can build rail roads? (not MS in Liberal arts)

we need oil and gas infrastructure, who can build that infrastructure? (not an MBA)

we need an agricultural revolution, who is willing to sweat for the land? (never met a farmer who needed a PHD in governance)

we need industrial output, who can build those foundries? (def not some unskilled guy in a thobe)
What country relied on their refugee diaspora population to industralise? There's 30 million Somalis back home. Only they can do it.
Everyone who recognizes the issues facing our country, but not taking personal steps to actually educate themselves in real skills is just as guilty as the public officials who are in charge in Somalia but have no understanding of fixing the issues in Somalia right now. Somalia needs 1,000,000 engineers | 5,000,000 farmers | 10,000,000 skilled workers. we don't need soldiers or social workers, we are not at war with an some external enemy, we are at war with slothfulness, and we need to take care of ourselves, and stop asking the international organizations for hand outs.
A diaspora PHD holder in governance is able to help Somalia more than an engineer if they're given power. Actually, 1 PHD holder in governance can contribute more than 5000 engineers. Because they can actually fix what's wrong with Somali governance/society in a top down approach.

Extracted words directly from my thoughts, splendidly articulated visual expression.

Moreover, labour and industrious toil represent a sacred form of Worship. While some may perceive it as a burden, in Islam, the act of earning and constructing through the earnest sweat of one's brow is deemed obligatory. Every prophet, including King Dawud (peace be upon him), engaged in the noble pursuit of daily sustenance through the skilful craft of their hands.

We must tether the value of our currency to the toil of our citizens and the fruits of our productivity. It is imperative that we refrain from allowing international financiers to arbitrarily print our currency, attaching interest for their personal gain. This practice not only grants them undue influence but also empowers them to manipulate inflation and deflation, exploiting the hardworking labour force.

one of somalis biggest problem is we have such a high unemployment rate so many young niggas that have no opertunity.

It probably takes a few weak to teach a factory worker the basics. When you see these pakistani factory workers doing their job its not like they take years to learn their job it just takes a few days to learn.

That’s why I support young adults enlisting into the military and army. What better way to use that youthful energy then liberating your lands and protecting your people? They get steady pay and obtain high respect once they become veterans & hopefully come out with a mature mindset and go on to have better careers.

Self preservation? A lot of Somalis from the diaspora are moving back home knowing the risks involved. And they bring with them work skills that they obtained. Even the ones that grew up in government housing have important work skills.

They have to get paid to be in the military. And at the same time they have to avoid becoming a “faction loyal to general futo bakayle” and contributing to the problem.

Even worse, a large military allows some dunce leader to plunge us into a stupid conflict, which is bad for the economy.

you notice how most modern societies have a professional military, in the United States and most western countries they won’t let you join the military without a high school diploma and an IQ test.

I wonder if we implemented that, what the outcome will be?
