Rant: I have a deep dislike for unskilled Somalis, who complain about lack of development in Somalia.

Some Somalis use social media to bash poverty in Somalia and its perceived lack of potential. On the other hand, the Leaders who are supposed to guide Somalia out of the dark ages, hold degrees like "MS in international relations, MA in psychology/sociology, PhD in Gender studies, PhD in governance, MBA," in my opinion, these are the two sides of the same coin, both are hypocrites. Somalis with real skills are not going to "pay/bride" some warlord for protection, when those skills are more valuable in other countries. The Somalis who lack skills are the least able to help in Somalia's future, but also those same Somalis make choices that affect Somalia's future for decades.

if we need railroads, who can build rail roads? (not MS in Liberal arts)

we need oil and gas infrastructure, who can build that infrastructure? (not an MBA)

we need an agricultural revolution, who is willing to sweat for the land? (never met a farmer who needed a PHD in governance)

we need industrial output, who can build those foundries? (def not some unskilled guy in a thobe)

Everyone who recognizes the issues facing our country, but not taking personal steps to actually educate themselves in real skills is just as guilty as the public officials who are in charge in Somalia but have no understanding of fixing the issues in Somalia right now. Somalia needs 1,000,000 engineers | 5,000,000 farmers | 10,000,000 skilled workers. we don't need soldiers or social workers, we are not at war with an some external enemy, we are at war with slothfulness, and we need to take care of ourselves, and stop asking the international organizations for hand outs.

You explained perfectly what we need inshallah I will be one of the diaspora that will go back and help develop the nation I'm thinking of pursuing a degree in architecture and start a company there and help construct and develop towns and cities and attract Foreign Investment to the country inshallah one of our ways to do this is the youth and the diaspora they are our countries future and we need competent leaders with proper degrees to come lead the nation but we need a brave and strong leader first to jumpstart it and when it does then the intellectual somalis would be coming back in flocks after knowing they can trust the security and non corruption of the nation

What your explaining right now is ingrained within our faith.

Islamic scholars have agreed that the study and practice of medicine is an obligation that falls upon Muslims to have sufficient numbers of followers to practice (Fard Kifayah). Fard Kifayah defines a communal obligation in Muslim legal doctrine. Fard al-kifayah is a legal obligation that must be discharged by the Muslim community as a whole, if enough Muslim member community discharge the obligation, the remaining Muslims are freed from the responsibility before God. However, if a communal obligation is not sufficiently discharged, then every individual Muslim must act to address the deficiency. Science and technology is one of the knowledge that are important in Fard Kifayah.

Allah will ask us what have we done with our privilage and oppertunities in the west to help our people. Do not forget them as you couldve easily been in that sitaution. Everyone wanted to leave somalia during the war only a small percentage got to.

I agree with you that slothfulness is a problem in the somali community but there's nothing wrong with being a social worker

you are putting the cart before the horse, you live in (not Somalia) while preaching the same stuff that made Somalia's greatest export refugees. like if you really believe studying deen is more important than our children and woman losing their deen in the west, then that is on you.

the only place for religion is inside your chest or in the mosque, prayer is not going to build a power plant, when God already gave us the brain and ability to learn how to build a power plant.

building a society around deen is one thing, but building a society who can rely on the deen is another. I thirsty Muslim looks for water if thirst, not waiting for rain.

Saxib do you think my post was in disagreement with yours.

I literally said its a communal responsibility to produce doctors and other vital occupations and if not its a communal sin.

Who are you discussing? Many of my uncles have PhDs in Finance or Economics. In fact my first cousin is married to a double PhD with two Engineering degrees from our reer. All formally educated abroad. If people wish to denigrate people for going to school longer then it shows they lack an understanding that many roles and expertise are required to solve complex problems. No one said you could not be a farmer/agronomist with several years of formal schooling. It is not mutually exclusive. No one says you cannot teach yourself skills either. This is matter of sheer interest and access to education (with recognized credentials) and resources which are lacking back home.

i actually listed a few degrees i find unskilled and useless, but tbh phd in finance and economics is absolutely useless as well, in 2023 i can create a machine learning model to capture and understand financial and economic data better than some PHD who just wants a big paycheck. if anything, I would take a truck driver or a general laborer instead of someone with a PHD in finance or economics, because computers exists...but if you really think PHDs in those fields are useful, give me a list of tasks they can accomplish, and i will let you know if computers can do the same thing...

but respect to your double phd with two engineering degrees cousin, that's the level of competency we need. my argument is allot of these degrees are useless, and don't contribute to society, but People really think clout from their useless degrees and complaining about poverty to international organizations, will create value in a place like Somalia, where one time of year they cry about droughts and the other part of year they complain about floods.

full disclosure: i have a masters and working on another masters, i want more Somalis to make better choices in the type of education they pursue.

In the case of Somalia right now, we need quantity, not quality.

I would rather have dozens of basic construction workers than a single high-IQ engineer.

We need to create a bootcamp-like structure where we can teach Somalis the basics of each essential job they choose and churn out workers faster and faster, and then give them the option to rise up the ranks in knowledge later.

one of somalis biggest problem is we have such a high unemployment rate so many young niggas that have no opertunity.

It probably takes a few weak to teach a factory worker the basics. When you see these pakistani factory workers doing their job its not like they take years to learn their job it just takes a few days to learn.

100%, i totally agree, a 3 month program in welding, concrete, farming, or machining would go a long way in bringing millions out of poverty.

In general, we tend to be clean and have adequate access to toilet facilities due to mosques being open around every couple of neighbourhoods, we need to focus on highways and improve our infrastructure to our ports and regional road connections, and we need access to clean fuel, and a ban on charcoal production, unless we want to desertify the rest of our extremely arid land.

When you watch videos of the kacaan era and how they got young educated men and women to go out to each village and teach the locals to write and read. That is what we must emulate.

Teach 200 people basic tasks they each teach 20 or so people and soon you will have thousands of people with skills that are valuble.

This would be one of the best things for the goverment to invest in as it would be almost a garuntee money back via taxes.

Somalia has low regulation and low cost of labour we could be a manufactoring hub like ethiopia if we plan correctly.
