The south has been in frequent conflict for 30 yrs now why should we let them hold us back. The so called Somali dream has failed us. The govt in Mogadishu barely controls its own capital and has no influence outside of it. It’s propped up by western aid and foreign armies. We should take a leave from them and create our own country. Things don’t seem to be improving anytime soon so we’re better off trying to help ourselves then try to help others who don’t seem to want it.

@heavyrealm Puntland will develop itself since 2009 farole has totally flipped the hamar centric Puntland to Puntland first route, we r sick of sacrificing Puntland development and we refuse to get involved in other regions because they will never appreciate the sacrifices Puntland has to make to save them. As someone that spent a lot of time in PL, good luck getting people back home to agree to independence.

This "movement" is a diaspora pipe-dream and is not grounded in reality. Aside from the obvious complications of seeking secession, there is the simple fact that this an agenda pushed by Somalis that have no experience of life in Puntland.

You know PL has a border dispute with SL?? and PL territories are based on clan kinship and let's not forget that non MJ clan don't want independence when one sub clan would dominant the PL which could lead to civil war and a war with SL on the border destroying everything that PL gained since the last 20+ years of their autonomous statehood. So PLers should think first about their state situation before calling for independence.

So hypothetically speaking, on what basis with international grounding would Puntland base it's Independence on? Not saying they are or will be, just looking to understand the thought process for those who support the PIM movement.
