Accept this and understand this, until Somalis get their act together and clean up their country and deal with the poverty and the corruption, we will always be looked down upon. No PR will save a society like ours until we become a wealthy one in which we as a gov and society can establish an image that works to our advantage. But when you have people living in camps, chaos, Karxiis, severe poverty, this is the end result. Even this Nigerian girl you’re complaining about is silly since Nigeria doesn’t have a good rep as well. The issue is innocent Somalis in the diaspora who have no clue and dont support this decision will get harassed over this terrible decision. Exactly I don’t understand how these people think Somalia’s reputation can be “controlled” through social media… they must be young Somalia been having a horrible reputation since the 90s before social media was even really a thing.

Even if social media DIDNT EXIST people would find out through the news… the only way somalias reputation can be improved is through the country developing, forming connections with other countries and improving soft power by exporting desirable aspects of our culture ie the food and music so people associate somalia with things they like instead of the news events

Anyone that is interested in news and their society knows that misogyny, r-word and female rights is a huge issue there. Their women often talk about it even doing vice and BBC documentaries, but is that something we soley associated with South Korea? No and ask yourself why? Because gov and society has pumped in billions if not trillions to package and showcase their culture in a certain light.

A countries “reputation” is merely a reflection of its internal politics and its relations with other countries which Somalia doesn’t have much good going on for either of those, what people say on TikTok is just a reflection of what’s going on in the country it’s very unfortunate but just the way it is but if we try to change and improve the country or maybe highlight the improvements happening (which you would have to spam TikTok to showcase that) is the only way to go about things
