Osmaanya Script. Cringe AF.

It’s not about how old a script is, it’s what you do with it. The English and the British in general use the Latin alphabet, but the amount of inventions, innovations, research, poetry, stage-plays, film scripts, legislation, etc that they have influenced the world with puts all the countries like Armenia, Georgia, Ethiopia, etc (all with native scripts or ancient derivatives) to shame.

That should be our focus; influence and excellence. Besides, we have an ancient script (Sumado) that fell out of use, and is only still observed by potters and certain nomads. We could always use that as a base and add any additions from the Osmanya and Kaddare scripts like the modern Hebrew and Tifinagh scripts.

There hasn’t been much archaeological excavations done in Somalia so we could possibly have an ancient script that predates the osmanya, kadarre and wadaad scripts. Also if a script serves our language then I don’t see why it’s date of creation should matter tbh

For sure, I know some old Sabaen scripts engraved into rocks, were discovered in Puntland. I'm sure a lot would be discovered, if it hasn't been stolen already.

In general, the field of linguistics is not meant to be stagnant, it's always changing and countries have the power to do what they want with their language/s.

You'd think someone forced them to use it. SMH

I'm proud of the Somalis who are using it in the 'Somalisphere'. Next we need them to type in this script and then maybe 100% of our ethnic ceeb wouldn't be seen by everyone.
Now that is a good reason to adopt the script now I want Osmanya, I feel jealous when I see Asians and Arabs writing in their scripts, no Ajnabis can ever understand or see their ceeb and they have the same tribal and gender wars as us, it's like a secret script

The only problem I have is that it's not ancestral, I feel like we should use our ancestral script, every country had one but we don't know ours? I think it's Sabean, apparently it's oldest inscriptions are in Somalia so I think we should combine the two or something so we can still feel pride when we use it since it's ancestral

None of the 20th century scripts are likely to ever take off but its an interesting part of Somali history. The efforts collectively to create the Somali script should definitely be taught as a topic in history.

In my ideal world we would have adopted the arabic script. “Latin works in type writers” is the most short sighted reasoning imaginable. The vast majority of Somalis can read and write in arabic our literacy rate could have reached +95% by now.

Habeshas are literally agaw cushitics with minor Arabian ancestry that speak a language and have a script straight out of south arabia. Most of them completely deny the south Arabian origin of their language and script

I think we should adopt Sabean, I have even heard that Somalis ruled Yemen and they even knew the names of the kings, they had control over San'a and apparently the oldest Sabean inscriptions are in Sanaag, it could probably be our script, it's not there without reason our people used it, we are ancient Arabs after all from Cadnaan

Should we adopt it? Oldest inscriptions are in Somalia and it could be ours

I keep seeing this osmaanya script on the online somalisphere. It's so damn cringe. Don't you think it's embarassing that you guys keep pushing this ridiculous script that was only invented in the 1920's. It makes Somalis look really insecure. I feel like Xabeshis are laughing at us. Their scripts were created over a thousand years ago, and now you have 2023 faraaxs trying to spread this nonsense script. It makes us look self-hating.
osmanya revival is in full effect you and your xabeshis wont stop it nacas nacas dhaley

Somalis, and I'm talking about real Somalis, not Hawiye, must use the Geez script. We were Ethiopians but were excluded for one reason or another, it's not too late to join them.

Oromos (a language very close to Somali), Afar, etc. use this script, so why shouldn't we?

Really, what do not you like about, besides your fascination with the Habasha, and its being young, it? And who is forcing it upon you?

The Osmaanya Script is a self serving attempt to undermine the Latin usage, so for a panafricanist it’s more appealing to adopt/revive today…it would be a damn shame if we revive it on that premise. Tragic even.
