Osmaanya Script. Cringe AF.

I'd prefer all documentation being in lughat ul-jaziira laakin wadaad is appropriate as well. In my opinion Somali is a language meant to be spoken amongst the masses not written down, our official languages should be Arabic and English

I keep seeing this osmaanya script on the online somalisphere. It's so damn cringe. Don't you think it's embarassing that you guys keep pushing this ridiculous script that was only invented in the 1920's. It makes Somalis look really insecure. I feel like Xabeshis are laughing at us. Their scripts were created over a thousand years ago, and now you have 2023 faraaxs trying to spread this nonsense script. It makes us look self-hating.
Xabeshis got it from Yemen
:mjohreally:

The Osmaanya Script is a self serving attempt to undermine the Latin usage, so for a panafricanist it’s more appealing to adopt/revive today…it would be a damn shame if we revive it on that premise. Tragic even.
The Osmanya script existed before Somalis adopted that colonial script.

Japan is a great example of multiple scripts used concurrently, something Somalia could do as well:

Latin script for secular education, it has already demonstrated how fast it can be adopted on a massive scale.

Arabic script for religious education and tourism from the Islamic world; Somalia’s cities and beaches have the ideal climate that many major Muslim countries like Kazakhstan and Kuwait lack, add safari parks and its a home run. Things have to settle down first.

Sumado / Osmanya - Kaddare script for cultural prestige; think billboards, shop signs, pamphlets, guides about the country etc.

The ancient abwaans believed Somali shouldn’t be written because it would make people bad at poetry and unable to speak their own language well, and so wrote in Arabic if they had to write.

Looking at all the dyuusphora ciyal baraaf and the local Somalis who change B to P I have to admit they were right, Somali was never meant to be written.

Our Ancestors never really liked Arabs, viewed them as dishonest and not of noble character, all this muh Arab worship came about circa 90's civil war.

This is a dishonest representation of an entire nation of millions. You take it from one extreme (Arab worship) to another extreme (Anti-Arabism) when our ancestors, besides nicknames and certain prejudices, were neutral towards them and considered them co-religionists. The fact that your source claims that Somalis had a disdain for ‘trading’ when they had entire trading quarters of their own in the cities of the Arabian peninsula just goes to show you its not a reliable source, and another one of those ‘Somalis don’t eat fish’ gross generalisation.

Somalis didn't particularly care for Arabs back in the day, we traded sure, but we also traded with the Habesha, Indians, Persians, Romans etc.

Like I've said before, during the Kacaan regime, Somalis used to feed these so called Arabs you have a hard on for, it's only after the civil war this nonsense started to gain traction.

So you also disagree with your own source? We were indeed traders, and yes we did not and still do not care for foreigners. The sentiments on a forum doesn’t reflect a nation of 35+ million people.

The Arabs gave us a discount on oil when the world was digging deep into their pockets to pay for fuel, the Arabs let thousands of young Somali men be part of their new Oil industry without being exploited, the Arabs sent hundreds of millions of dollars in military hardware during our battle against Ethiopia. I do not worship them, they can easily become an antagonist like the UAE, but with a strong Somali government I do see the many potential benefits of being cool with the Arabs, and therefore there is no need to create animosity where there was none in the first place.

Trade partners and potential political allies, that would make sense. But this nauseating bootlicking is disgraceful and unbecoming of Somalis. I am not referring to you btw, but the league of Ana Arabs on this forum.
