Ordered to serve in a Jury

American judiciary is a weird place. Even niggas who flips the burgers in a fast food restaurant is summoned to serve in a jury. These fuckers then decide someone's fate.

I can't lie, I am biased towards Somalis, Muslims, African immigrants, AAs, and beautiful white women. Especially, if the accused is a white woman and she is beautiful, I could just be steering at her without looking at the evidence. So not sure why would the court taking chances with me.

Come now, it is your citizenry duty to serve as a jurist. Do it with pride.

What is the case about? Civil or criminal?
I enjoy following legal cases for relevance and interest.

It is a broken system. That is why I don't want to serve. Ordinary people should not be a jury. People who are professionals in the field should weigh the evidence. Many minorities end up in jail 'cause dumb and racist white jury keep convicting them.

That is the core principle of one's case being determined by h(er)is equals and contemporaries. You will be provided with instructions, guided through the process, and advised to be impartial. It is imperfect, yet one of the fairest in the world. Believe it or not.

Source: https://naacp.org/resources/crimina...p close to,by African Americans and Hispanics.

"Despite making up close to 5% of the global population, the U.S. has nearly 25% of the world's prison population. 32% of the US population is represented by African Americans and Hispanics, compared to 56% of the US incarcerated population being represented by African Americans and Hispanics."

Enough with the "yet is imperfect, yet one of the fairest in the world. Believe it or not." It is a system rotten to the core.

All right.

I’d milk it for as long as possible to get paid time off, if the person is guilty af I’ll be only one arguing they’re not, and if they not guilty I’ll argue the opposite.

What country are you in? It’s very easy to get out of jury duty. Tell them you’ll be working on that day and you’re the only income provider in your house. That usually works on its own.

If they deny that, go to jury selection and be extremely opinionated. I did this once and they never called me again. There was a case involving these natives who’s kids got seized by CPS and they were trying to get custody back.

When I was asked about the role of parents and the responsibility of the government, I told them natives are irresponsible people and should all have their kids taken away. There were several audible gasps. They discontinued the interview immediately and told me to go home. I got an email the next day saying I’m excused.

The key is to be genuine when showing bias. You can get a fine if you disrespect the court or do whatever to not be selected. Never say you are biased or cannot render a fair judgement.

They thoroughly interview you before hand. They look at your job, history etc. Usually old retired white women get selected to sit on the jury.

You get paid $ 50 per day and your life can be a living hell. Sometimes you can’t call your family or anyone for weeks. You can also have a target on your back regardless of what judgement you render.

This is incredibly rare and highly unlikely.

And the fact that OP is capable of developing a philosophical objection to the common law jury is *precisely why* he should serve. Also generally employers are legally prohibited from punishing people for jury duty absence for obvious reasons, if that's a concern.

Yup

Sorry, I edited it to clarify that employers can't fire you for serving, but I imagine there might be rare circumstances where a specific person's presence at work is critical or something. Like the one guy who knows how some part of a nuclear plant works or something

Claim to be racist or sexist or have some bias during the jury selection process. They'll escort you out of the building
