Tbh that was on the Arab Spring. They used to be gunned down on sight and herded into prisons before the revolution let them go, as they were the only real organization post-revolution they won elections and got one of their own (Honsi Mubarak) into power. This trend sharply reversed after a second revolution sent Ikhwan back into the prisons and shadows.

The lid has been opened so time will tell if they can regroup and try to rule the country again.

There is no sect called Wahhabi. The term "Wahhabi" was Turkish propaganda. sheikh Albany explains on this video.

he criticized/insulted a prophet and didnt recognize the caliphate of othman (called it an intermission between omar and ali) and takfired sahabi abu sufian. these take him out of asharism or hanbalism or maturidism. he had ashari tendences and leaned towards asharism but was not ashari for those reasons.
