Does anyone know how these nomad's braided their hair like this? I am curious to know it seems like it has been forgotten among modern Somalis.
What does this have to do with Sufism and whatโs wrong with singing about shaykh abdulqadir jilani?lol those sufi Somalis like to sing about Jelani

but how is that relevant to this thread?somali Sufis sing about Jelani just like the Algerians sing about Abdul qadir

Yeah that probably has something to do with it. My Edo for example hates my hair and thinks it's ugly when grown out. She prefers me to have a buzz cut at all times.Somalis with Madow/coily hair nowadays are discouraged from growing their hair & told to keep it short.
In the HOA, its still popular amongst Habeshas, Afars & Oromos to grow out Madow hair.
I heard Afar's used sticks to curl their hair down. Butter would be used to keep the hair in shape. They used butter to make their hair coily and go downwards just like other Cushitic tribes. Afars are famous for it too. Afros were even more popular in Somalia though.
Pretty sad. Walle those hair styles were dope af, at least Sufis kept the tradition alive (most of these dudes are bidaar af tho)Changing times.
Black African traits are looked down upon by most Somalis.
Its interesting to my knowledge that Habeshas dont have an issue with Madow hair like how many Somalis do.Yeah that probably has something to do with it. My Edo for example hates my hair and thinks it's ugly when grown out. She prefers me to have a buzz cut at all times.
I notice Hoyo's hate long hair in general for Somali guys, not just for Madow hair. They say it's "Haram" even tho all the prophets were known to have long hair. Maybe it's just self hatred. Its interesting to my knowledge that Habeshas dont have an issue with Madow hair like how many Somalis do.
The second picture was taken of nomad's who were in Hargeisa to trade their camels in the cattle market in the city around the 1920's.Those hairstyles was probably seen in SL in the 19th and 20th century
