News from upcoming FGS elections

Weird how not a single party is campaigning, people will literally be voting for random parties that were formed a few months prior, political gambling

99% of these parties only exist to make the elections look more fleshed out. I have monitored the activity of the supposed center-left and left parties on the ballot and not a single union has come out and said 'I support so and so', not a single workers organization has said 'I support so and so', and not a single farmer organization has said 'I support so and so'.

I think they're not even sure of their own ideologies, not many promises you can do when you're working on such a tight budget

Yes there are unions in Somalia, the two biggest are the Federation of Somali Trade Unions (website) and the Somali Congress of Trade Unions (website)

Both have around a hundred thousand members, the Federation of Somali Trade Unions however is a member of the International Labour Organization (which gives it the edge needed to be the most important union in Somalia)

A couple of interesting points, the socialist parties have joined a coalition called the Somali Democratic Alliance, led by the former president of South West State and the former prime minister Cumar Cabdirashiid . They do not seem to have any core policies, so I think the coalition is a bit premature.

Here are some parties doing campaigning

Ramaas -
Madalsan -

Towfiiq -
JSP ( HSM party) doing selection of candidates

the campaigning is not constant & loud, but we can hope it becomes stronger as election day approaches. I also think we'll need multiple elections to build institutional political parties and its culture. Imagine, getting Somalis to pay party membership fees, follow ideas and not clans.

Let's see if this election happens anyway

this is textbook opportunism, an alliance with bourgeois parties (led by the same guy who opposed unions in his tenure btw, and who was in bed with Qatari cash) is not going to advance the people's interests.

Probably just a random anti-XSM pact that will dissolve the moment they win (or lose)

have any of them spoken out about corruption?
I have not seen any of their rallies but honestly for like 3/4rths of these parties it's quite hypocritical. Almost all the parties led by more experienced men were very corrupt when they had power and many continue to be.

very disappointing, doesn't help that you need to spend hundreds of thousands to millions to get into somali politics anyway

Are you guys dumb how many times do I need to say its not 4.5 anymore, unless Khaleejis bribe the electoral commission or the people who will vote thats not going to happen, not saying its gonna be corrupt free but thats just not how it works anymore
Wait since when did we have 1m1v? I did not hear anything about this.

ppl probably will just vote on qabiil lines at the end of the day tho, a real competitive race will happen in Xamar (will be tuned in for that)

Has FESTU came out and supported any party? They tend to be left of center and actually do engage in politics. They probably can sway urban GM to their preferred candidate.
