$700-$1000 a month for a studio or 1 bedroom. Depends on the neighborhood. The suburbs are somewhat cheaper.

NYC is not affordable if you earn anything less than $80,000. Pay in NYC is not as high as some think, while costs are absolutely astronomical.
If you want to save any money in the US, stay away from places like SoCal, Bay Area, NY and D.C.

I would recommend Boston or Philadelphia.

San diego is not too expensive and it's much better than NY, weather wise. and food is cheap in cali too.
