Important to have a national ID card with vetting.Xamar they used to stress me out back in the day whilst driving around always asking for ID. I would show them my driving licence and they would say that isn't ID(make it make sense)...in the end my uncle got me a gov ID saying I worked for the Ministry of Interior:drakekidding:

FGS clashing with Puntland

Somalis love fighting over nonsense. This should be a non-issue. It’s in the FGS and the FMS interest to have as many registered citizens as possible.

Whether that is done at the federal level (current plan) or implemented at the state level w/ a uniform set of rules legislated by the federal gov (similar to Real ID) should not be something not fight over. Personally I don’t think a federal ID card makes that much sense as you should need a state ID card to vote in state elections. Regardless though, I’m biased towards action over inaction. This is a country with a terrorist and corruption problem. We should have as many people registered with biometrics as possible.

What if terrorists get access to the database? I posted a few months ago of businesses in Mogadishu that said that shabaab targeted them through the chamber of commerce. No government with Mukhtar Robow, Fiqi, etc as ministers can ever be trusted.

Valid concern but every country is able to do data governance there’s no reason why we shouldn’t be able to as well. Somalia is just nonsense. FMS try to be petty and spite FGS & FGS does the same back. There’s no reason why we can’t have a workable solution for ID cards.

Whos at fault here? Puntland does not recognise the FGS. Its inconcievable to to properly do 1m1 at this point in time. This is ultimately a pointless endeavour from their end. The somali people agreed to federalism not this wishy washy im gonna make id cards for everyone. The main difference is Puntland follows law and order and this bunker government just goes with the flow.

Is there a power the FGS has that it hasn’t abused in the last 365 days?

I genuinely think this issue could’ve taken 5 minutes to solve but there’s a lack of goodwill on both sides that makes any form of governance difficult.

Both FGS & FMS act in a way that hampers the country moving forward. Next president needs to focus on ironing out the constitution in good faith.

Why would citizens in a federal system require federal government id cards?

Please tell me how this non issue issue is due to Puntlands lack of good will.

Actually lets talk daacad. Why does almost every administration pick a fight with Puntland? I'm geniuenly curious. I need to understand the fundamental issue these bunker governments have.

1. You assume there is one way to operate a federal system. There are many federal governments that require federal identification cards (Germany, Brazil, etc.), so this objection doesn’t make sense.

2. When I said that FGS/FMS both do not act in a way that engenders good will, it was not limited to just this issue, but the way Somalia operates on the whole. An example of PL doing this is with their announcement of a new currency.

You’ve admitted before that Hawiye wants centralism and it’s good for you sxb. We agree with you on this, so by this logic why should PL accept anything that FGS does when all of it is clearly an attempt to impose unilateral Hawiye centralism on everyone? That is the real heart of the issue.

You didn’t finish reading that post. I don’t think this current stalemate is good for anyone and I see no future with centralism so I would rather just get on with what all Somalis can agree with and not waste anymore time.

Also you can’t call centralism a Hawiye project when Farmaajo was trying to do the exact same thing. End of the day fighting over IDs is retarded and shouldn’t be a focal point of any serious government.

TBH there’s no such thing as daarood or hawiye when it comes to politics every subclan has their own interests

I didn’t say you support it sxb, I read your entire post. This is the lens through which it is viewed in PL and now JL due to this admins actions and rightly so I think. You are correct that Farmaajo wanted it because he was raised on booli qaran aka D.E.I. and his folks not being able to build a single musqul in their lands but thanks to our Hawiye brothers you bish slapped him out of that daydream

Good points. My main issue is its not fair to compare the FGS and Puntland, in most cases Puntlands actions are responses not provocations. You mention the currency issue, that is also a response to the FGSs prolonged inaction on currency reform. Its like a cycle, the FGS undermines the federal system or fails to carry out its duties, forcing Puntland to act in the interests of its people.
