I was at Walmart the other day I was leaving and there was a crowd of cadaan guys in there late teens. I over heard couple of them dapping each other up. A couple of them said to each other " what's up my Negan ". The cadaan have reclaimed the N word. Negan is actually the term to mean king in Ethiopian. Not gone lie it sounded catchy

Now ALTERNATIVELY, imagine if the n word either 1. I know historically the word was used in an extremely derogatory way but let’s deep this okay…… what does “n*gger” actually MEAN????? than just being a mean word for black people????

If we look into the linguistic history the root word for “n*gger” pretty much is “negro” which just boils down to “black”. Btw anyone familiar with Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Romanian etc would know ironically enough while “negro” is considered offensive in the west it is a regular everyday word over there and in Latin America

It's quite literally a statement used by white people to belittle black people, a term that means "I'm superior to you and you are inferior to me, because you're a N-word and I'm the master race."

Is that how all people use the term today? Probably not. However a lot of racist people do say the word for that exact reason. It's a term that's meant to literally belittle you as a black person in social standing.

The idea of taking back the word is something I personally thought wasn't a good idea. But it sort of makes sense and on a social level, it is empowerment. Basically you're banning white people from using a word that belittled you, lowering their power to be abusive, and then adjusting the word as an exclusive term for black people as a term of endearment. And then, the term is made cool on a cultural level, so there's social standing gained from people who use the word this way. It's essentially a complete rewrite of the word.

Again, I don't think it's a good idea, because you can't technically say that adjusted word means the same thing, or that would imply black people are belittling themselves (which isn't true), so they'd have to admit that the word isn't bad, but is just exclusive, which opens a can of worms on social equality. It was probably a better idea just to ban the racist word all together and be done with it IMHO.
