Oromo muslims are mostly considers the most acceptable non somalis to marry from in my experience. Many Somalis don’t even consider marrying oromo muslims (especially hararghe oromos) as marrying out. My uncle has an arsi/hararghe mother and he’s considered fully somali partly because his mum speaks fluent somali and lived in xamar for most of her life

Somalis throw sudanis in the “Madow muslim”/“Madow arab mixed” folder even though many of them aren’t. This is probably because we’ve only ever interacted with Khartoumites who look more diverse and not the pure Cushitic looking ones from souakin. That and the fact that they’re a pretty much foreign group to us, one we have no recent history with. It would be seen like marrying a Senegalese muslim who happens to speak Arabic.Meanwhile somalis and the various Ethiopian tribes have centuries of history and cultural exchange together with entire clans being birthed by their intermarriage.

This is changing with the next generation though. We’re becoming much more open minded as more and more somalis embrace True Islam which encourages intermarriage and not “cultural lslam” which promotes looking down at allahs creating. Hell even Somali and somali bantu intermarriage is on the rise, especially in the agricultural regions of the country

This is a nightmare situation and the only way to deal with it is cutt off the cancerous lady from the family one of my 2nd cousins married a Madow revert and was completely cut off from the whole family, now shes isolated with her Madow in laws and her children forgotten. Now she only has contact with her mother as her father died. The rest cut off.

This is the only way we can deal with this disaster now no one knows she exists in our Somali circles.
