Not even Meles Zenawi tried to recognise SL. Ethiopia and TPLF had the absolute support from western countries and the Ethiopian government was the most powerful it had ever been before. They could have easily gotten a military base and even could have annexed SL or even whole of Somalia but they didn’t.

If you read about that period when Meles was Ethiopia’s leader, Somalia wasn’t rapidly recovering, economically and militarily the way it is today, it was comatose. What is happening today is a congruence of interests that want to set the clock back in Somalia before it’s too late. The moment the army, navy and air force is equipped, the window of opportunity will be gone, in-fact everything that has happened in the past couple weeks already highlights that this stunt was too late, and has in fact accelerated Somalia’s recovery capacity wise;
We are slowly waking up and ethiopia is on borrowed time scrambling to try to exploit us one last time before we fully recover.
What a stupid way to see things. Try to read more about geopolitics and what motivates the xabashi on Somali/Somalia. Everything they do is to keep somali disorganised and weak. Is it not strange how they supported every rebel group that existed? Not strange they made this move now that Somalia is moving in the right direction? When they could've made any move they wanted in any place before the SFG? It's designed as a quicksand, evertime we're close to pull together they invent a new problem.
Business is business and is allowed but xabashi can continue dreaming about the sea. They owe us land and will never get another inch of Somalilands InshAllah.
Give them an inch and they will take a mile. Allowing them a military base sets a precedent. What will stop them from expanding and building up their navy till they have full control of Somali waters? Lack of foresight for some of these folks. What they will give in return is not even guaranteed as Ethiopia has stated.
Ok so would you guys consider recognizing Somaliland as a independent sovereign state instead? if its stops them getting sea access.
Ethiopia will be the regional naval power and they can protect Somali waters in exchange for hosting them. If Somalia hadn't spend thirty years in a civil war it would have been but you can't turn back history, you must accept things as they are instead of whining and defeating yourself even further.

The regional naval power will be Somalia, hundreds of sailors have already been trained in the last 5 years, all they needed was their ships, and with the embargo lifted, frigates and destroyers are no longer excluded from importation

It can be like puntland but that's as far it can possibly go and the government is recovering enough to soon be able to exert control and power in their autonomous and decentralised regions like puntland.
