Mohammed Siyaad Barre spoke better English than even those who attended Sandhurst Military Academy

Executing prisoners would have garnered him more public anger and hate. He got away with executing Salaad Gabeyre because it was early days and Salaad had many enemies.

He once imprisoned the Manifesto signees in early 1990 and sentenced them to Death, the whole of Xamar almost came to a halt that shook the regime so much they had to reduce it to imprisonment. Don't under estimate the public support.

Honestly, Caydiid had it too easy till the UN came. Afwayne use to give stars to reer baadiyo geeljirayaal who have never picked up a gun and told them to protect his govt :mjlol: ma waxaasaa layska dhici karin

If he was a smart leader, he would have built a loyal Army across clan lines. Instead he got paranoid when the Mj's attempted a coup and he saw many regimes in Africa overthrown by Vice Generals and Army Heads. From that moment, he surrounded himself with clansmen thugs like Morgan, Gaani, Gabyow, Dafle etc. He was even willing to tribalise the economy and gave Xoosh Kibray the only license to export and import without being taxed. How do you alienate the majority stakeholders in the country and expect to rule forever with a bunch of nobodies? :kodaksmiley:
A rebellion is like a disease; if you let it linger for too long, it will spread, the idea behind it taking root in the public. It will have to be dealt with as soon as possible and as violently as possible. Seek out every single member of the rebellion and kill them. Both Caydiid and Abdullahi Yusuf opposed Siad Barre's(AUN) rule from the very beginning. Why did he imprison them for years just to let them free and be the downfall of his government when he could have had them killed in prison? As for the Manifesto signees, it was far too late. Rebellion has to be stopped before the idea behind it reaches the general population. He should have compromised and given the citizenry the illusion of control. The manifesto group was also at odds with the armed rebels and could have been used to crush them as they had a lot of public support.

To kill someone just because they don't agree with your rule is the shit you expect in North Korea, not anywhere else. You have to remember there are International repercussions of doing that. Somalia was in its infancy, it couldnt afford to become a terror state and receive support.

Caydiid left his post in 1989, if he was a rebel he would have left in 1976 but he stayed in the country, fought in '77 and provided military advise.

Rebellion is a disease like lung cancer, but it was Afwayne that chainsmoked himself to it :manny:

Definitely a very impressive guy. His English sounds superb, and to think he also spoke fluent Italian too. Not to mention his impeccable oratory skills in Somali. How did such a great man arise from life in the bush? MSB was a once in a century hero of the Somali race. He once said, Somalia is a zoo and I was its zookeeper. I used to be offended by this statement, but now I see its timeless wisdom.

You expected something here didn't you?!?!?
He also served in the Second World War, as a signals man in the Italian colonial army, mostly in the Horn and its direct region. Also, during the Allied occupation of Somalia and all of Italy's colonies, he remained as a soilder, so that's probably where he picked up English and other languages from
