Mogadishu's Building Developers need to be stopped

The only normal looking building development is an upcoming masjid. By the grace of Allah, there are only 2 colours involved.

Let's pray the yellow, gray and orange lovers are not involved here.

Darus Salam neighbourhood (Hormuud company) had the opportunity to stun, but of course, yellow and some strange purple/rust colour was used.

But that wasn't enough, the doors are BLUE.

Tell me people, is the colour White too 'expensive'? Or do they think this is beautiful?

These architectural crimes have nothing to do with qabiil.

There are people with money in Somalia with zero taste, ZERO.

Look at all the new developments in all regions in Somalia and you will be shocked at the amount of tacky colours and designs that are used. Even human beauty standards are shocking in Somalia right now.

I think everyone back home needs to get their eyes tested.

Mogadishu Beach, all these buildings must be torn down if the country ever stabilises and they must be pushed back to where the road is.

This is how it should look in future: private hotel space, trees/plants and gates for hotels and then a public beach for all citizens to use, not just for private hotels and their wealthy patrons.

He’s already done a few projects and interviews about his mission.

I fear this is where Mogadishu is headed if private developers keep erecting these high rise apartment buildings. When people refuse to buy these apartments and cannot afford to even rent them, they will slash prices and then make even cheaper, higher ugly buildings for the 'poor'.

The next Somali Federal Government needs to find a way to build decent subsidised housing so that every family has a few meters to breathe and get fresh air. Somalia is HUGE, there is more than enough land for every family to have decent space. There is no reason for people to live like prisoners in claustrophobic buildings that are deathtraps.

Even if they have to take loans from the World Bank or whoever, so be it.

Mogadishu should have kept the beautiful aesthetic of old, white washed buildings only. Mogadishu and other coastal towns in South Somalia always looked gorgeous with white washed buildings surrounded by palm trees.


Lately, there is a rise in hideous, Eastern European, communist-era inspired monstrosities that are popping up all over the place.
