This is a recent map on medieval Europe. Maps from back then looked a lot more inaccurate
I love the HRE. It's a mess till Prussia comes along and fixes the German states to one unified unite. This is how suspect our history would've went had outside interference not happened. Eventually one state will grow strong enough to absorb all smaller and weaker states into its influence.
Adal was about to do that to the entire horn till Portugal fucked it up.
Perhaps there could've been a state in the 1800s that would've united the Somali peninsula. The peninsular was divided by several kingdoms already. All that we needed was one if those kingdoms to start producing a modern millitary and conquer the rest into a Somali empire. But this would have to happen before the 1890s.&80s

Just we Somalis are divided by clan whilst other are divided by region and Tribe.
Our connection with the Ottomans might have facilitated the development of more advanced weaponry. I think the issue was developing new formations to better utilize the new tools. We were still cavalry during that period and while it was still useful it meant that in a artillery focusing world it'll be obsolete. All things considered things could've gone so differently that it's insane.
Millitarily we were undefeated. Sure our tactics would've been improved but it was more than sufficient in the African context.
The Adalites taking Abyssinia and perhaps pushing into Sudan to form an Islamic empire that stretches from Khartoum to Mogadishu would've been insane. As Ajuuran would've likely fell, or perhaps Ajuuran Aristocracy would see their rivals win such victories and may push to expand themselves. Either way would see a golden age of Somali expansion and Empire.
With the Ajuuran expanding all over the Swahili coast and taking madagascar.
All of that could've happened had it not been for a couple Portuguese knights sneaking behind the Imam and killing him. Very sad to think about.

We nearly ended the somali civil war in 2006 with the Islamic courts union increasingly establishing government. But the US came and told Ethiopia to invade and overthrow it.
The greatest issue in the Somali peninsula is foriegners. We must be so united and powerful that foriengiers may never involve themselves in our politics again.
thats why a home grown cultural movement is key. Youd be surprised how many young people back home are fed up with qabiil just a civilian order (non islamist) taking advantage of this and forming a new SYL can help us greatly. If you form military order it will cause foreign invasion , if you form religious same thing thats why a civilian order will be ignored and can build up slowly over time.
But millitarism and religion is what historically defined the Somalis.
If what you mean by "civilian order" is a political party like the SYL, then that is no longer possible in the same way. There are no policial structures in place for such thing. We must build the country's institutions again from the group up.
That can only be done with militarism. To defeat the old ruling class, eg. Corrupt FGS Politicians, Al shabab high ranking, state govs of Punt & Somaliland, Qabil leaders ect.
These old power structures must be torn down by millitary means. And through force we can build a country again.
You mention US intervention, really there is nothing stopping that, whether it's millitary, islamists or civilian. If we go against their world order they will try destroy us. Only option is to fight if they try get involved. We saw how others like Afghans and Iran managed to secure their sovereignty.
Obviously war must be avoided, but a nation wide millitary insurgency in case of foriegn intervention should be must.
Basically, Somalia needs a new youthful government and militant group that will take over the country and forcefully remove the old orders of power within the nation as well as destroy islamists insurgency groups like Al Shabab. Then they will use force to bring order and stability. Courts and prisons will be established. People will be sentenced, mass executions of politicians, terrorists and sympathisers.
A new Somali constitution that doesn't try off brand west. But instead makes something that fits the Somali people.
The UK has a house of Lords alongside an elected parliament. Perhaps we could do something similar with a house of government with clan leaders to make all qabil feel represented in leadership.
The other house of government will be elected.
A legal code that combines traditional Xeer with Islamic law and new modern innovations for modern issues as well.
For the first 2 or 3 decades there should be a millitary government to enforce law and order in a country which hasn't seen any for 3 decades. Hopefully this would have cultivated a strong and unified state.
