I think turning everything into a gender war is kinda pointless. I can logically understand the plights Somali women have to go through and sympathise with it but it’s hard to understand the feelings associated with such victimhood for me.

I think the best I can hope for as an individual is to take care of my sisters, mother, aunts, cousins etc and provide what I can. Give them space when necessary and protection when needed, this also applies to my male relatives too of course.

Complaining about the community as a whole with others back and forth gets people nowhere, the women will talk of their victimhood and the men will get defensive. I honestly think it’s just better to tell everyone to treat those they hold dearly much better and have patience, it’s what I’ve been trying to do the past couple months and it’s hard but I honestly think it’s worth it in the end. Seeing people you care about smile cause you made them is honestly one of the greatest gifts out there.
