Longest Bridge In Somaliland Collapses After Just 3 Years

Heavy rains, looks like the embankments were filled with sand and then surrounded by cement which caused it to collapse once the sand/dirt got wet.
Aren't they supposed to inspect the bridges every now and then to insure incidents like this don't happen?

Looks like it was poorly built, The first steps to build any Bridge is to conduct a geotechnical investigation to assess the soil composition, bedrock depth, and water conditions at the bridge site.

How the hell dose any Engineer sign off on any Construction without the Survey or any research

How much rain does that region receive per year? what are the highest levels recorded ect?

Someone should be fired this is a poor job

Damn thats crazy. I'm studying civil engineering currently and they take field inspections super seriously. Do you know if this was managed by Somalis or folks abroad?
Not sure but it was part of the Berbera Corridor project. Likely built by locals with funding from UAE.

You can clearly see they put only Sand under the Concrete, No Gravel, Or Rocks NOTHING

This whole Bridge was built Poorly

The guy in the Video is right, they just put sand and covered it up with Concrete
Yes, and as soon as the heavy rains start the sand will obviously get wet and it will collapse the ends of the bridge, which will then cause the center to collapse due to the load. I’ve seen bridges collapse like this before. Almost as if someone put up the concrete to make it look stable. Literal deception, that is why people are calling it khiyano

Wow. Standards need to be raised back home especially with how important infrastructure like bridges are

That video is from the first time this bridge collapsed in 2023.
It has collapsed for the second time, this time for good.
The damage this time around cannot be repaired.
