Qabil is probably made up. Qabil was made because of ownership of land since we Somalis are either nomadic, merchants, farmers or urban dwellers.

Qabilism played an important role in every society since the dawn of mankind. It's no secret that human nature drives man to flock towards his own kind to seek shelter and protection. Some societies have taken it further and seek protection from clans and close relatives from their own extended kin (countrymen). Whether qabilism has its benefits or drawbacks, we all have to admit that it didn't work for Somalis and never will. If the desert dwellers had remained qabilists then they would have never earned the wealth they have today, oil may have saved them 30yrs of pointless savagery and in fighting. Europeans hated each other once and have since then put aside their differences to form a European union that looks out for their best interests. My point being is that this thread is to spread the message that Somalis need to heal and not hate on each other based on qabil or other differences, as the next 50yrs (if we don't get nuked or colonised or raped out of existence) will dictate the future lives of our children and the descendants of the Somali race. We have a chance until the sun rises in the West and sets in the east to get our act together and build Greater Somalia.

Pls do not derail thread and add your opinion on the pros and cons of qabil and maybe on this thread by the time Ramadan comes around we may find a solution for the current problems we face. But on the serious note from what I have seen with the Somalis dudes my age here in the states. No one even speaks about qabil.it was never even brought up in convos.the only time I actually talked about qabil stuff was on this forum. I literally interact with other Somalis without having to know about their qabil or anything else.

If that qabil shit was the main reason the civil war happened than I don't see any need for youth or kids being taught to talk shit or degrade other qabils. In fact teaching kids they are just Somali is better than telling them they are from a certain qabil

There's a difference between tribe and tribalism. You have a right to learn and know your lineage. Hell even in tribal divided Arabia during the prophets time. The prophet saw did not shy away from his lineage, but he preached unity and united the Arab tribes and Muslims of all ethnicites. Your lineage is yours it's your pride maybe, but should not be hindering you from treating others equally in all aspects. There should be a fair access to everything. You shouldn't be destined to have a menial life because you hail from a minority clan and you shouldn't be deserving a certain status just because you're from a majority one. However if we take tribalism away people need a system to lean on. And I think the only way we can be qabayaalad free is with good governance and trustworthy authorities which we are far from.
