Never seen any census by their govt on ethnicity. Large areas of their country are inhabited by Arab tribes and same goes for the Berber areas.

Sudan is the same thing. People claim it’s a majority Arab nation when in fact the Arabs are a small minority restricted to a number of tribes like the Baggara, Ja3liin, Kababish, Rashaida, Bataheen etc. There are also others who deny the Arab heritage of actual Sudanese Arabs from those tribes.

I understand Moroccans better than Sudanese. It’s all just about exposure. A lot of people wouldn’t understand Yemenis for example

Obviously you're more around them my mom understands Algerians, Moroccans and Libyans while I don't I just understand khaleeji Yemeni dialect is weird for me too I don't count darija as Arabic and neither do other Arabs since they can't understand them

There is a gap between the Maghreb dialects & the Mashriq ones. There are all equally valid Arabic dialects. I understand everyone quite easily except Sudanese, Mauritanians & Egyptians.

Edit: Add the Chadian dialect as well
