My parents spoke Too much English to me growing up smh. I think I’m going to ask my Hooyo for lessons

Its not fiid, waa fiit.
Fiit is the word for evening.
I won't reccomend anyone to say iska waraan, I would say waar waran, iyo setahay.
The problem were I come in is sexual suffixes, I speak to fast. I ended up practicing.

But theres a issue in af somali to make things not people plural you have to make some words feminine sound.

I speak good Somali but wouldn’t be able to explain the grammar rules. You are better off watching YouTube videos, staying in Somalia for a bit or studying under a qualified Somali teacher.......this guy was offering classes in skype i think,still considering sxb @MARAQ DIGAAG
It would actually be a niche if someone set up Somali study centres in the West. The Sikhs teach their children Sikh religion and Punjab language in the West. I don’t understand why Somalis dont do the same in the West.
Even in Islam , a person is supposed to learn the Arabic language before embarking on deeper religious studies. Somalis concentrate on studying Quran without understanding Arabic lanaguage.

Somalia is a dirt poor country.. I bet Western Somalis could hire Somali teachers via skype for pennies.

They are already conducting Quran lessons through Skype so it would be easy to find teachers......I have actually thought about starting a centre where young Somalis can be taught Somali language lessons alongside tuition in other subjects............I will keep that a secret though.......

It could be profitable.
One guy somewhere in Gaalkacyo could be teaching an entire class of 20 kids via skype and earn like 1k per month (more than enough for Somalia).
I dont like Waar waraan it is too informal. I like formal communication. The professional of Somaliniimo! Iskaa waraan is very respectful. Waar Waraan is aggressive, i wont respond back

It was quite easy for me because...
- We only spoke Somali in our household.
- Since my dad spent a lot of time in the homeland, mom would take us to him almost every summer since the late 90s.
- I used to write to my aunties and uncles back home via msn messenger lol.
- I loved writing in Somali, I taught myself through writing stories, word dictation etc.
- My hobby was also to read a lot of religious books in Somali. The Quran tafsiir, the siira, khulafaaul raashidin, an nawaawi 40 hadith, riyaadul saalixiin, buluuqul maraam etc.
- Mom used to force us to listen to Sh Umar Faaruq's tafsiir of the Quran, but me and my siblings hated it because we couldn't understand anything due to his shaky voice, after many complaints of his non-safiix and xabeeb voice, she switched it to Sh Umal.
- We used to listen to a lot of muxaadaros too, but tbh I used to think most of them were meh...except for Sh. Mustafe X. Ismaciil.
I think all of the above mentioned factors contributed to my Somali. Not to mention teaching runs deeply in both sides of the family. My dad, my awoowos, most of their siblings and other relatives(like Muse Galal) were/are teachers, scholars, poets etc. So I think they sparked my passion for learning Somali.
I don't think other Somali youth had the same privileges as me growing up, so I don't expect them to be great at it, but honestly there's no excuses. Learning a language is NOT difficult in this age. I lowkey judge people who can't speak their mother's tongue. I have some Somali friends who have never set their feet in Somalia who still speak decent Soomali, so what's the deal, really?

It's Fiid not fiit. Fiid wanaagsan means good evening, habeen wanaagsan means good night. Fiidmeer is bat. Another word for night is caawa.
Iska waran is proper way of saying it, "war waran" is way too informal. You can't say that to your teacher, parents etc.
Buur is not masculine, it's feminine. It's buurta not buurka. If a word end with a "ta", "ha", "da", it's feminine. If it ends with a "ka", "ga" it's masculine.
You can't always write it down as you pronounce it:

Isaga*
Iyada*
