Kenya bans Somali visas as khat continues to flow

As a Somalilander yourself, do you think it’s relatively safe I mean for investment and business compared to Mogadishu?

In Mogadishu, you have more people, but both places (SL and PL) are safes. I would say to you to setup a shop in Garoowe and then branch out to the rest of the country.

You can also setup a business in Hargeisa, Burao, Ceerigaabo, and other Somali cities.

The whole reason people go to Nairobi is 1) safety; 2) easy to do business; 3) huge population that you would get enough customers. In SL and PL, Nairobi alone has 4 times more population than Hargeisa and 9 times more than Garoowe. So you have more population in Nairobi, which means more consumers. But if Kenyans are telling you to stay in your country and the government - led by fool Hassan Sheekh Mohamud can't help Mogadishu secure, you have no choice but to consider other options.

Jigjiga is another option. Under President Mustafe Cagjar, it is easy to do business. It is also much safer than any city and town in Somalia/Somaliland.

Ceerigaabo is experiencing a boom but one thing I noticed is that reer Ceerigaabo prefer to do business with their neighbors and not outsiders. Local companies are expanding and the youth overall is benefiting. I think that if you want to do business as an outsider Hargeisa, Muqdisho, Garowe, Baydhabo and Bosaso are perfect as they're not tribal.

This is due to the taxes. Kenya doesn’t want Somalia to tax their khat!

HSM should be commended for this. Expensive khat will price out many from using it and the one’s still buying it will be taxed to fund our government and thereby get debt relief as we’ll have a good source of income

Most people coming from Somalia to Kenya are transit to Nairobi, to South Africa, Zambia, Uganda, Tanzania to Angola and eventually to Europe and North America

This will hit the medical tourists back home the most. Most Somalis go to India for more complicated medical treatment. You've to apply for the visa to India from Kenya so I wonder where this will be moved to now with this development.

You can apply for India in Garowe. They open office there.

Gee, those masked teens are knocking the door of Villa Somalia. :dead:

Perhaps Kenyans are saying "don't run away from your country, fix its security issues. We can't have all of you big belly Somalian politicians in Nairobi. Fix your country".

I agree with them.

The parliamentarians with Somali passports can't go to Nairobi since Kenya stopped issuing visas on Somali passport. Those parliamentarians then threatened the Speaker and his deputies. Villa Somalia is in crisis mode now.

And it is only 6 months since the last esteemed President Mohamed A Farmaajo left office. Yaaba is gaaray.

Great job Guulwade Xassan Sheikh Culusow, Jaale Mahad Salaad. Please keep insuring the ‘streets ain’t safe’ status quo. These crooks voted for you.
