Japan and IOC deny that Olympics will be cancelled
Japan and the IOC stood firm on Friday on their commitment to host the Tokyo Olympics this year and denied a report of a possible cancellation, although the pledge looks unlikely to ease public concern about holding the event during a pandemic.

Such a shame, there was some hope the games would be saved by mandated vaccinations for athletes and their parties along with Japanese ubiquitous cultural adherence to masks but looks like it won't happen. Japan hasn't been hit hard by COVID, however a recent poll has shown >80% don't want the games to happen. With this in mind the Japanese government is privately trying to find a way to cancel these games and hold them some time down the road.
I was most looking forward to supporting women's pole vault and beach volleyball.
