It's a play by Bantustan states. It was originally a union of swahili speaking banru great lakes nation. So having swahili be the universal language made sense. But they adopted other nations like south Sudan and are still insistent on swahili. Somalis are better off in a trade union with ethiopia Eritrea and Djibouti with further relations with the Arab league nations that have an actual economy. Further trade deals with India not too far from our shores. Than have this humiliation of a "EAC"
I agree, a Horn of Africa union that could be the crosspoint of Asia, the Middle East, and southern Europe would’ve been much better for us.

But a lot of the people objecting to this deal aren’t speaking logically, they’re just mad that we’re uniting with countries that they feel are beneath them. It’s pure racism.

The architects and proponents behind the EAC unfortunately seem wedded to the idea that Swahili should be the official language of the bloc when English would be far more useful. I think the rationale behind it is built on the fact that Swahili is the most widely spoken language in East Africa.

I've already expressed my discomfort with the prospect of South Sudan adopting Swahili as an official language in the future. I'm simply not comfortable with the origins of Swahili and would rather just use English as the official language for all political discussions and as the language of commerce.

I would rather my people retain all the major Nilotic languages in tandem with the mastery of the most significant and most useful language of our time.
How is the language situation in Nilote land? How inteligible are they, and what dominates?

Juba Arabic is the only unifying language we have, even though English was made the official language during the Interim Period. The various Karo languages of the Equatoria region are extremely close and this is precisely why I sneer at the inflated number of listed languages in South Sudan.

The various Luo languages form a bloc and they too are very close; the Nuer language shares some similarities with the Luo languages, but a complete conversation cannot be had.

The Dinka language shares features with the Luo and Nuer languages but a full conversation would not be possible; the languages are close enough that a person fluent in one could pick up the other within months.

As long as bantu dont migrate into our lands and make the populace speak swahilli i support this its better than being in some horn of africa thing with ethiopia cause they are useless and wont bring us benefit but i have seen the EAC countries and they are developing and hardworking and trustable people and if we stabilise ourselves and get rid of al-shabaab it would be even better and allow us to be apart of the predicted economic boom going to happen and the development of our ports and cities and theirs as well its a win-win situation.

Ain't nobody migrating to somalia are these niggas high :heh:
I actually think skilled workers from across east Africa might come to Somalia especially the big cities but not in massive numbers as people in these countries have more access to vocational schools and training in industries and professions that Somalis lack at the moment

Expect an uptick but not only Kenyans but from across the region engaged in different industries I don’t think it’s a bad thing as long as they train Somali youths
