My only issue is the idea that swahili will be the official language as it is already considered the lingua franca of the EAC countries.

You don't think placing Swahili as an official language is a dominant integration play by the Bantu countries. Swahili is a prime Bantu language. Would it not be Somali-centric to position Somali as an official language in DRC?

If it is simply an economic bloc, why is Swahili a requirement when English is usually the global got-to language of today? If China did the same, everyone would lose their minds about colonization.

Listen here, you buffoon, Swahili speakers dwarf Swahili people. The people and the language speakers are not necessarily the same - the coastal Swahilis are a demographic fraction, meaning the majority are not Muslim.
