Can't we take Yemen and UAE to the ICJ like Kenya did to us? It can't possibly be legal that the UAE "purchased" and annexed it and we do have a claim. It's in our EEZ. That has to be countered in the future inshallah. Glad that the current Somali government denies land purchase and ownership to foriegners because the UAE has bought land all over Africa. How can they get away with it?
Socotra isn't ours to take lmao. There is no case for it whatsoever. So what if their EEZ cuts us off from Oman? Why should we jeopardized our relationship with Yemen over this? We already have a ton of coastline we should be focused on keeping and developing.
Besides, we saw what happened with Eritrea and the Hanish islands, the IC deemed it to belong to Yemen even though the Eritreans xooged them militarily.
A relationship with Yemen is worthless, I agree we don’t have a strong case as we have never claimed it or disputed it with Yemen at least not that I know of. Also the Hanksh islands are different to socotra, socotra is way closer to mainland Somalia then Yemen, also if Somali gets its shit together the IC and UN will support Somali over a failed humanitarian crisis state Yemen.
Keeping a good relationship with Yemen will be worth it if the Houthis get defeated, besides there are a ton of Somalis living in Yemen.
Even if Somalia manages to fully stabilize before Yemen does, its such predatory move to go after Socotra. We would be no different from Ethiopia and Kenya.

Yeah, I always cringe when I see other somalis claiming it online.
I’m not saying it is ours. It is also didn’t historically belong to Yemen nor the UAE who currently control it. Plus it’s in a strategic zone which undermines our monopoly over the Indian Ocean in that region. Also it can become an autonomous region within Somalia that governs itself and their language and culture will be respected it’s not like we are going to xoog them and annex their lands. Plus what have they gotten from being part of Yemen, Ik Somalia is also not in a good place but when we figure it out, it will be beneficial for socotra to be part of Somalia than Yemen.
