durham isn't worth it imo you're better off going to any of the other top Russell groups

Oh come now, do not waste your time and resources on whether one is Ivy league, or not. It matters very little which uni one attends. If one gains requisite knowledge, learns how to apply [critical] it, and possesses solid work ethic (from what I have observed most young people want to be mollycoddled, and spoonfed), and can deliver, then life is mostly [operative] grand.

tbh you did engineering, it doesn't really matter what uni you went to
when looking at consultancy/investment banking/commercial law, it really does matter where you went, it actually matters a lot- these firms have target unis which happen to be the top 10 RG unis
I'm speaking from experience, the more these types of job pay, the higher the competition, the more they care about the prestige of your uni- its public knowledge that the top firms almost exclusively hire from Oxbridge/LSE/UCL/Warwick and some of the other RGs depending on the field
If so, then why waste your time on those fields?

tbh i fit the culture there. I am privately educated
because they pay well for graduates, why waste time on a job that takes 10+ years of experience to start paying a good salary when you could just work harder to start earning it fresh out of uni?
unless you are dedicating your life to philanthropy or academia I don't see the point

Is that so? In the US, a Programmer starts approx. at 80K+ fresh out of Uni. A ChemEng starts approx. at 85K+. A CivEng approx. at 68K+.
How much does an Accountant, or a Financial Analyst start?

I can only say for solicitors working at the MC/city/ US law firms (the ones with target unis)
first year trainee is 45-50k second year 50-55k NQ lawyer is 100-120k
Β£100k at 24 is hard to come by in the UK
True, plus literature less the terrible culture now ---- that is the only good thing going for the once Great Britain.
apparently first year analysts at GS have a salary of nearly $110k
But cost of living in Britain is rather high, no?
Postscript:
I was once conversing with an older Sikh man guarding a guest house I was staying in Bangalore, and was enquiring about life in general, mostly cost of living for the average person. I was glabberghasted when he said he was making 200 US dollar a month for a family of 7.
Earlier in the day at breakfast, a colleague and I were complaing about our bonuses that year, which was 15 times his annual salary.

hahaha you would be lucky to start on 30K as an engineer in the UK. Big 4 Accountancy probably pays slightly better than engineering. Those working in IB at Bulge Bracket and Elite Boutique firms will typically take 50-60K as base salary with bonuses going up to 100% of salary (as first year analysts - as you progress the compensation gets significantly more handsome)
