I would even marry my cousin no problem Somalis don’t really have a lot of genetic defects plus it is relatively safe to do so

When your son becomes challenged read this post of yours in the future. 👍🏾

Do you know how big tribes are? By tribes are you talking about Isaaq, Darood, Hawiye ect? They have at least a million in each and even if it’s subtribes like MJ, Habr Yonis or Abgaal, they have like hundreds of thousands and then when you get to your sub-tribe you have thousands. In what way is that anything close to being related? Yes you may share ancestors from hundreds of years ago, but that doesn’t mean related.

For me it depends if her family practices cousin marriages, thankfully most Somalis don't do that (anymore).

İt's better to get away from marrying your own clan the outcome of very low iq ugly looking inbred kids is very high
Clans are too big for that to be issue. We are talking a million+ when it comes to major tribes and like a quarter of a million when it comes to sub tribes.

Wouldn't say it's incest. But marrying outside of clan should probably be promoted.

One thing I really dislike is when I hear people saying they will only marry their inadeer. That is a extreme level of tribalism

Some clans alone are bigger than some ethnic groups/nations.

This might sound controversial but I'm just gonna call it, some of the most beautiful Somalis to ever walk the earth had both parents being of the same qabiil.

And on the other hand, some Reer Xamar looking like inbred hunchbacks, genetics is wild like that.

What about mothers and so on? Can't discount them.

I've got Hawiye, Raxhaweyne, Dir and Darood maternal ancestry.

Historically, marrying outside your tribe was promoted especially during times of strife since a lot of Somalis history consists of fighting over grazing land. The way they countered that at times was marrying their kids off to opposing qabils. Most Somalis have maternal ancestors of different tribes if they go back far enough.

In saying that, some Nomadic families did dislike it when their daughters married out since it would mean they’d hardly ever see her. Nomads moved around a lot which meant that the likelihood of them seeing their daughters regularly was low. That’s what I heard. I could be wrong.

That's a good thing. That means your forefathers were open to marrying other clans and so you have a range of maternal ancestors.

If your forefathers had this '' I will only marry from a my clan'' mindset this wouldnt be the case. Also people who have a range of maternal ancestry are less tribalist and more cultured.

@Chase, Somalis do indeed discount the tribes of their women.

@mohamedismail

That isn’t true at all. The recent Lasanood fighting should have taught you that. The horrendous fighting between Abgaal and Habr Gidir should have also taught you that. Most Dhulos and Habr Jeclo have grandmothers of the opposite tribes. Many Abgaals and HG have grandmothers of the opposite tribes and that didn’t stop them from turning on each other. A lot of MJs have HG mothers and Ayeeyos, they’re still hella qabilist towards each other.

I think Somalis used different tribal marriages as a temporary halt, but it didn’t stop their grandchildren attacking each other down the line. During many wars in our history you had maternal cousins finishing each other.

I’ve met Somalis who only have one qabil in their known ancestry who are less tribalist than some Somalis whose own ayeeyo is of another different major tribe. The nonsense that comes from their mouth will shock you. The only thing that will help Somalis is a change in mentality.

From that aspect , I agree. Somalis from two different qabiils tend to be less tribalist especially when the qabiils are far from each other geographically.

But your right in the sense that some people will still hate their mothers tribe. I could never hate my own mothers tribe that's crazy.

You gotta be some next level laangaab if you are worrying about the possibility of incest if you marry a fellow clans person

Honestly good point, I've also heard of the Bimaal/HG beef over the Lower Shabeel, and the MJ/Dir Surre beef in Mudug, even though both sides heavily marry from one another.

It'll be better to leave close cousin marriage to the Pakistanis. We don't need that issue added onto our pile.

Only if your langaab.
Most clans are big enough where it's not incest at all cause you'd be far related.

For some reason 4 generations of my family is the same two sub clans of Ciise the men just preferred women from that sub idek :zhqjlmx:

Somalis always encouraged marrying different clans. It gave you more connections and for the Geelgires it gave then access to more lands and trust of the clan thag owns it.
