Is it true the Somali population in NYC is growing?

I saw someone mention more and more Somalis are moving to nyc and I assume is because of businesses. But how true is this? I always wanted there to be a somali business savy community so if this is true this is good news. I heard there's a Somali restaurant in Harlem that's very popular, so imagine if we opened many more Somali restaurants.

SD and NYC used to be the spots back in the ’80s-’90s, but it got too expensive, so people started moving to the Midwest and Toronto. There are still a few old-gen pockets left in Harlem.
Now, some young professionals are moving to LA, SF, and NYC for school, work, modeling gigs, etc.
Most of them lean liberal to super liberal tho.

NYC is one of the worst states to live. Insane rent, high cost of living, huge taxes, too many regulations and shit quality of life for families.

It’s only good for aspiring professionals in niche fields.

There are small Isaaq and abgaal communities in NYC, most live in queens. I prayed with some of them at abidin masjid a few years back. Wonderful people, Somalis thrive in communities with very few Somalis

There used to be a sizable and growing Somali community in NYC that dates back to the early 1900s. But after the civil war broke out in 1991, Somali migration patterns shifted. Instead of heading to NYC or the DC/Virginia area, many Somalis began settling in places like Columbus, Minneapolis, and other parts of the Midwest.

You can read a bit about it here the early Somali settlers in NYC.

Some families in DC and Virginia stayed, and their descendants today are mostly upper-class professionals in respected fields. In contrast, a lot of the Somali old heads in NYC ended up selling their properties and businesses and moved to Minnesota.

Back in the day, Somalis in New York ran gas stations, delis, restaurants, textile shops, community centers , some were even involved in import-export businesses, bringing goods in from Somalia.

Interestingly, there seems to be a bit of a revival now. I’ve noticed online that more Somalis are starting to move back to NYC again.
